Hello and welcome to the Philippines' newest online community of Do-It-Yourself Enthusiasts!
What is PinoyHandyMan.com?
About PinoyHandyman.com
It's a great time to be a Pinoy handyman. Hardware chains located at major malls make shopping for do-it-yourself materials and tools more convenient and sometimes cheaper. New building materials that are easier to install are becoming increasingly available. Good quality hand and power tools have greatly gone down in price.
With experienced craftsmen increasingly difficult to locate and expensive to hire, many Pinoys are doing it themsleves, saving money while enjoying themselves. Pinoyhandyman.com is the website for all Pinoy DIYers, highly skilled or rank beginners, making projects big or small, using materials that are readily available in the country. A site where Pinoy handymen can share their projects, know how and friendship.

Oops! If forgot to intoduce myself thinking that I was still logged on in one of our favorite sites.
I am tatoski, early 40's and based in Antipolo. My fields of interest are mainly in building wooden boats and small home improvement projects. I am also quite handy in mechanical devices having tinkered cars, motorcycles, bikes, engines since I was 10 years old. I also fly radio controlled airplanes and enjoyed building these which used to be made of mostly balsa wood.
Recent home improvement works include a bookshelf for my sons and a polycarbonate roofing over my entrance door.
Having said that I can say that I am handy in power tools and woodworking in general but lack the skills in fine woodwork like cabinetry.
I hope this site will attract more pinoy handymen. May our tribe increase.

Hot Daddiy

Hi I'm Hot Daddiy based in Baguio City. My interests are in all things electrical and electronic. My passion is tube audio. I have made 5 tube amplifiers and 2 tube preamplifiers. Since it is difficult accessing transformers for tube amps, I make these myself. Hard work, but I think that the results justify the effort.

I'm 2diy4 and my interest is in carpentry and all things diy. I have helped to build and design several houses, mostly made of wood. While I am not a true craftsman and cannot make fine furniture, I do make and repair furniture, if possible, using old wood which I salvage from junk shops.
I am excited about this site and hope that it brings the diy community closer together
Ask my wife and she'll say I'm not much of a handyman - the projects she has for me just keep piling up. :)
So what am I doing here, well I am a DIY guy. Actually I was an electronics DIY till it became my profession. Nowadays all my DIY activities revolve around boat building. I'll get into most anything though mostly its carpentry. Last year, I started building a foundry but only got to the point of melting my wife's stainless steel pot, which I used as a crucible, till I had to go back to building our boat. Well that boat's done but there are now 2 canoes in the works and a small motor dingy that has to get done soon(?).
I going to be bragging a bit here but it does go somewhere ....
Since I got back into this DIY stuff around 1998, I'd say my workshop is now kind of extreme, there aren't that many tools I can think of that aren't in there already ... well actually not really, I'm sure we can think of others ... but I do have quite a few: a monster 12" table saw, a 4' wood lathe, a 12" thickness planer, a 6" jointer, a 10" compound sliding miter saw, a 7-1/4" miter saw, a benchtop sanding station, 5 routers 3 on tables, a 7-1/4" circular saw, a 10" circular saw, a pendulum jigsaw, a belt sander, 2 cordless drills, 1 regular drill, 1 SDS drill, 2 bench grinders, 2 sander/polisher, a 14" cutoff saw, a welding machine, an gas cutting setup (LPG only), a 4" angle grinder, a big angle grinder, etc., etc. etc.
Now I am not a lotto winner or anything like that. While maybe half of my shop came from saving here and there, the other half is made possible by our little business of buying surplus tools, fixing them, and then selling them again. For example, can you imagine buying a 12" thickness planer P6k - P9k? Or how about a cordless drill for P600 ... actually I probably have 3 or 4 that I'm going to keep. Why that many? One for drilling, one for counter sinking, and two for driving screws :). Or how about a cheap good quality circular saw in the area of P1k? Drop me an e-mail if you do. Anyone nowadays can have a nice workshop.
BTW, even if you have no intention of buying anything, you can always visit and help me build whatever boat or project I'm working on.
Later.

hello...
am houseband, a 30-something house husband here in the concrete jungle of Manila in an area called Sampaloc.
i spent most of my time working from home. as such, can't help but to tinker around the house and this website is a heaven-sent for folks like me...

Welcome Ronfer. Cebu City has everything that Manila has, probably more. I was at Gaisano Metro once and saw lots of cool stuff that I've never seen in Manila, like a foldable shelf bracket. I still kick myself that I didn't buy several. In my house where space is a premium, a few foldable shelves will really be convenient.

greetings! am certain i inherited my father`s interest in d-i-y works . . . anyway, he worked his way to
college, by doing any available jobs like peon, carpenter, plumber, latero, mason, etc.. . .reaching a
bureau assistant director position then migrating to US and retired as Auditor IV at LA County, bidding
farewell to us in 1991, he left us large collection of his branded tools, say, 1,200 ++ drill bits [most of
them came from US Army surplus during WW2, hammers [tack, ball, claw, etc ], elec drills [metal
casing ], saws[hand, back], thousands of screws/ nails, etc, etc, etc. that even some
engineers/contractors who saw his collections were wondering how did he able to collect them. . . .
ok, for my part, i know how to use\operate all the tools i inherited since elementary days with my
Tatay`s supervision, of course. I only do minor jobs at home during my free time and i`m very
elated when i finished one with satisfactory outcome, say, additional c.o. [elec. outlet], replacing
baseboards, replacing a busted water valve, making a study table copied from a magazine, etc . .
btw, i`m into medical profession . . . . :D

Hi, Tom here,
Have been in Backstage and Theatre Lighting, Sound and Production all my life. Have always been self-employed mostly and have 'retired myself' and now I am like 'houseband' ...a houseband too !!
I think of myself as a good 'siraniko' if it's busted, give it to me, If I can fix it good, if not, then it is really busted ... !! Then I can strip it for parts and keep it in my junk box.
Have accumulated a whole buncha handtools both mechanical and electrical. Power tools mainly a drill (corded Makita), a bunch a no-name rechargeable screwdrivers, a lot of Dremel Mototools both corded and rechargeable.
Like Icarus, I have a little collection of odds and ends that I don't think even he has !! :)
One day, i will open a tool museum with tools from all corner junkshops of the world and all these tools will have a history all it's own.
Good to be in this group, thanks to tsikot for send me an invite.
Cheers :) :)
P.S. Icarus, am interested in seeing your 'collection,' show me yours and I'll show you mine. Hope you're keeping them all from rusting !!! I'm in the Shaw Blvd, Mandaluyong area.

it's really fantastic, having a Pinoy DIY forum... i hope i can provide some significant contributions as well...

Hi to all!
Accidentally found this site while searching for seeds :D
Anyway, I'm also a DIY person. I've been repairing flourescent lights & flat irons, threading pipes, making extension cords since my childhood days :)
Have some knowledge in paints, electrical, plumbing and general hardware stuffs.
Last handyman stuff I did was redoing a 3-way switch installation a friend of mine tried to do by himself (it's tiring going up and down the stairs :D )
From time to time I like gardening (hence the search), and currently looking to strawberry seeds.
That's all for now. Don't be a stranger and drop me a line ;)

Which branch of Handyman? I've been to Gallaria, but didn't see any strawberry seeds. I'm not sure if strawberry will survive in the lowlands, but I'm willing to try :)

btw, does anyone know where I could buy good second hand power tools?

Australian branded second hand power tools are sometimes awailable at HMR on Pioneer. But inspect all tools carefully before buying.

Friend of mine sent me a link to this site a few months ago, just found time to register and browse through it now unfortunately.
I'm a 30 year-old weekend and sometimes odd-hours DIYer. I inherited it from my dad who was a civil engineer and frustrated carpenter, and i suppose from my maternal grandfather who used to be the principal of a trade school in La Union. They never really passed on any of their skills to me, only old Stanley and B&D tools and a strange desire to take apart everything I see :)
I love puttering around the house during weekends, "repairing," "improving," and "optimizing" stuff that's already working fine. I also enjoy working on my 67 beetle (a lot of it DIY!). :)

Brother,
What is the brand of your table saw and do you intend to sell it to anyone interested and how much? Further do you also sell one those vast collection of your routers you have and do you have one with variable speed of what brand. tnx waiting for your reply.
A little bit serious diy'r
Hi Richard,
Sorry we got out of the business ... no time. We've still a few pieces but I'm really hesitant to sell them only because I would not be able to give any kind of guarantee, and I don't have the time to rummage through them much less check them.
These are all GMC or Ryobi tools for Australia. Some were excess inventory but most were returned items, some with minor defects, though some really not working or even repairable.
Since people always ask and I'd really like to help, I'll just tell everyone were I got them: HMR Auctions located along A. Bonifacio. This is an auction house so you'd need to bid for them. You also need to take the risk of getting unrepairable stuff. You can test the motors for continuity but that's about it, unless the auctioneer declares the item working in which case you get a short guarantee from HRM.
Frankly, if you don't want to have to repair the tools, it would be better to get a non-industrial brand. For example, my first router was a fixed based John Benzen that I bought for P3500 when a Makita of the same specs cost P12k. The cost is still higher of course compared to those sold by HMR but then you don't have to worry either. My John Benzen is still working although I've been mostly using the other routers these past two years. No reason really. Actually, the real cost is in the bits you buy.
Hope this helps.
