*Maybe the timber could cook up a format on how to entitle the WIPs for competition for easier reference

why is the thickness not being posted?only the length and the width.

di ba dapat yung first picture, yung slab ng 1x6x24 at intended cut lines lang makikita?

why precut? some would think including me that these are just pieces of s4s KD 1 x 1's placed side by side.

well just my observation.

hey Doc, that is precisely that. 6pcs of 1x1x24", if you see the rules it has been revised to accept that. as long as the total pcs measure up to 6x1x24" before starting the work is accepted. it is more expensive to buy kasi 1x6x24 than to buy thinner stock.
refer na lang to the rules...

on my way to nueva ecija today, i dropped by at Golden Belle Marketing, near north cemetery, they are the distributor of biggie wood machines like the altendorf you saw at hafele..they are one of the major sponsor of the woodmach slated on oct 6-9 btw

only a few machines are in their showroom..most of their machines are in cebu daw..the shaper/moulder cutters are sooooo big! 5/8 diameter nung mga shanks!

i dont intend to get even their lightest 210kg bandsaw worth 100K into my small woodshop though.

just curious of their contraband.satisfied..left the store almost immediately.

think i've seen Golden Belle before too in A. bonifacio while passing through on my way to Ilocos... Eh, you don't happen to know if they sell bandsaw tires do you? *cross fingers*

Started cutting the wood into pieces and since I got no power tools that I could use for this project, I am bound in using hand tools. So I brought out my poor man's Japanese saw - a Back saw for some action

Since cutting in a vertical line is my waterloo since I am a child, I could not help but to appreciate the artistic jagged edges of my creative sawing. Unfortunately, one man's art is one man's junk so I decided to even the edges with my poor man's version of a planer setup. However I still opted to use Deluxe H20-proof sandpapers made from Silicon Carbide with USA quality for faster and nicer planing action.

As you can see, I placed the whole setup on my unique one-piece workbench made from imported raw wood. The wood has a stamp "Made in R.P." I think R.P. means Rico Puerto or Puerto Rico so I guess it was a typo error and should be "Made in P.R" instead. I also decided to bring out my handy-dandy clamps which are very strong on clamping wood, pinching my shoes after putting Rugby for better adhesion, compressing my three-layer sandwhich to chomp it easier, etc.

Anyway, leaving my Puertorican workbench and clampies aside, I draw the cutting patterns on the wood according to my mood of the day. Today, i decided i want simple yet strong architectural lines. So goes the vertical lines and horizontal lines on my obra maestra. I used premium lead wrapped in philippine wood and topped with a pink rubber in one end as my scribing material. Since my table saw is still being designed the Bosch R&D team on Stuttgart, Germany I happily brought out my handy hack saw in blazing orange color. I used some proudly American made Lenox blades for precise and accurate cuts that produces micro-fine saw dusts that is bad four our health but good business for vacuum and dust mask companies.

Hayaan mo, if you can drop by bukas sa court, I have good reason the Bosch R&D from Stuttgart Germany will be around to do the the modifications you need on your previous ordered item...
I also like the imported wood that you used for your planner, similar to my imported Tanguille from the USA... :D

Continuing my saga on my very first peer-pressured work for the sake of the ultimate clamps and dear router bits to which I still have no router to slap it on...

It was a long day at work, tired of the usual monotonous stuff and eagerly excited to come home in order to do it all over again. Of course i need to do some progress in the obra that I claim so off goes another set of work but a bit different this time as I liked it more.

Yesterday my dear readers, we have seen how we have chosen to cut the dear wood sticks into smaller wood sticks. We have also seen the different imported tools from China (No pun intended as I am part Chinese as well). Also, we have seen how we have chosen to use vertical and horizontal lines as our creative markings.

Now, we will attempt to remove the notches that we have previously made in order for us to follow the wood pattern. On this aspect, we could use a coping saw but I will be chiseling out it instead. For all you know, chiseling is one of the things that I wish our dear creator have not made. It is one of my least favorite portion since it involves a lot or monotonous hard word just for little effect. But since we have no power tools, I have no choice but to handle my dear chisel with all my guts.

Some might ask why do I have a chisel if I do hate chiseling? It's because of the fact that I know that i will be needing it one day and I like the color combination of blue and yellow of Irwins. I know, i know it's a bit shallow but c'mon give me a break, one ouf our dear friends here in PHM beebeenator loves orange way more than I love blue nd yellow! (You're welcome Ben, I'm making you famous here you know)

So off the chisel go from my toolbox to my work piece. Since it's an Irwin, it's not that cheap so I trusted the sharp metal thing to cut the notches that we have made earlier. I place the chisel on top of the waste part and started tapping it. I did not expected the wood to be carved that easily, it's like scooping your first scoop of ice cream (a frozen one in this case). I even tried to manually push the chisel into that wood just like the chiseling videos in the net and I see thin sheets of wood being removed (it's like scraping butter with a knife this time (oh boy what a feeling). I am now a convert of chiseling but i still hate sharpening, period.

After cutting the groove and notches, off we go to sanding and placing a round-over on the sharp edges of the now ever shorter and ever thinner wood sticks. Since I have no rare-and-ultimately-worshiped Mujifang round over chisel, I brought out my sheets of Deluxe H20-proof sandpapers made from Silicon Carbide with USA quality and started my painful journey or sanding the faces and edges of the wood until it's smooth like a baby's butt. This time, I created more finer dust so it's always better to have a dust mask handy.

Just to post the final pics...

Notches removed and the edges are sanded. Next step is to finally sand all the faces and edges with higher grit sand paper together with the notched parts.

I decided not to put anything on the wood surface as to have a more "raw" look. I am not a fan of shiny objects so I thought that the item would speak more to the person as the way as it should - raw wood.

I made a toy wooden puzzle.

It may not be extravagant or that complicated but I want something that could be fully utilized to it's potential and make the person more curious. It's a great conversation piece as well.

My apologies for the short write-up as it was a not-so-good day for me. I wish to post the step-by-step puzzle solution as well but I could not. I did not report to work because I had been running to them rest room the whole night accompanied with headache and joint pains due to dehydration.
