I would recommend Sandolin hardwood oil, get natural if you do not want it to darken.... kaya lang drying time takes at least 7 days... btw, welcome to PHM, and that is a nicely made rifle stock.
also, please limit the picture size to 480x640pixels. the picture you posted can be corrected in your photobucket acct...
enjoy the site and keep it clean...
cheers

that wasthe plan sir to document the work in progress but sadly i was not made aware by our machinist that he already started working on the blank stock. He was using and end mill with core box bit 3/4 x 1/2 shank and 1/2 end mill bit.

The monte carlo stock was the original stock of the rifle we just copied it for the blank stock.

Welcome aboard!

Looks like it has a pretty neat grip, the whole thing seems to be leaning towards the heavy duty...

its a thumbhole pistol grip sir. After finishing this project ( the laminated stock) will go back to the original plan of using hardwood.

this is the one i will be using

Sealer? do you mean like sanding sealer? Oil? do you mean oil based stain? Of course after sanding, stain, then sealer, then top coat. I make my own stain by mixing oil based boysen (depends on color you want) with tinting color (to get the preferred color). Depending on the kind of wood, either I wipe the stain directly to the wood or mix the stain on my sanding sealer then spray. I could easily get the kind of shade I wanted by spraying rather than wiping the stain over and over.About 3-4 coats sanding i-between until I get the smoothness I want. then a choice between lacquer and PU for topcoat. PU is nice , shiny and tough but too shiny.(i dunno if you wanted a wet look gun stock). I am working on making a PU top coat flat or satin. Minwax is also a good choice for stain but quite expensive. It's fun to discover different ways in making custom finishes. It's like being a mad scientist....it's alive!!!!

both sir sanding sealer and oil stain. i want a satin finish that will show the color of the stock.

is applying oil stain the first step before applying sanding sealer r could it be the other way around?

Stain is supposed to be first then sanding sealer. Stain will not penetrate sanding sealer or it's like painting water color on glass. However what I do is to stain the wood with only one pass (1 coat/layer) then if I decide to darken it, i mixed a very small amount of stain on the sanding sealer then spray it over. The more coat I apply, the darker it becomes. Then clear topcoat finish. You can buy a PU satin finish at ACE (ace brand) or cheaper dead flat lacquer mixed it with clear gloss. Too bad couldn't find any more semi-gloss lacquer. When working with lacquer using a spray gun, be aware of humidity and the right mix of thinner or you'll end up having a milky finish. Use lacquer flo specially when moisture and humidity is high. Branded lacquer thinner are now sold at popular home depos (not the one in gin bottles). sometimes I use PU thinner on my lacquer finish.

the in-letting is finished already and also the sanding. Test fitted the barrel and receiver to the stock and now it is ready for the final step.

I would recommend a trial piece first, it will work well but best see the results first before committing your final piece...
