Power tools are great time savers. But there's a huge variety to choose from. Here's the chance for the more experienced diy-ers to help the newbie decide on his first power tool purchase..

i think a cordless drill is the wisest investment for a first power tool.
a power drill is always helpful in drilling those holes on the wall to hang photos and paintings or to make small wooden stuff.
personally, i have yet to find a need for a jigsaw or an angle grinder. am not really the hardcore DIY, just the everyday handyman who fixes things around the house, rather than building things myself.
though, who knows. maybe because of this forum, i might surprise myself and actually build something.
more power!

I suggest for first power tools is drill with HAMMMER function, and yun medyo malaki ka bilhin mo yun 5/8 capacity, para kahit malaking butas kayang kaya

same with me iyan wireless drill ang una kong binili.... kasi may speed control ... pwede mong lagyan ng bit na para screw driver (+-).... tapos very handy pa.... walang kailangan extension... i vote for it

Same here - power drill with hammer function. That's the first - and so far only - power tool I have. 'Almost always comes in handy. My wife likes it because she can use it around our small garden.

Power Drill
my first and only power tool so far is a bosch power drill.
10 yrs. old na and was very useful when i had my water re-piping and installation of long span roofing on our second floor. very much borrowed also by my brother, sister and even my in-laws. ;D

Before pa mahilig na talaga ako sa DIY. Nag invest narin ako ng mga power tools like corded and cordless drill set, jigsaw, angle grinder, plainer. Very helpful pag meron ka nito.
Hi to all, newbie here ;D ;)

Corded Power Drill w/ Hammer Action
There's just no cheap alternative tool to replace it. Especially when it comes to drilling concretes.
While with other tools, you could do the job with their cheaper alternatives
Jigsaw and Circular = Lagaring kahoy o Bakal
Nail Gun = Regular Hammer
Grinder = Sandpaper o Kikil

My first power tool was a corded drill. We all know that a drill is a tool to bore holes, but it has several uses as well. It can be used for sanding, hole sawing, grinding and cutting. With appropriate discs and chuck adapters, drills comes in handy for the right job.

hands down choice, corded drill, has the torque/power advantage over cordless drill when it
comes to heavier workload, as in metal/concrete works
other choices can be done manually with ease as most of us learned during elementary/hi school

Greetings all!
I prefer to have first a cordless drill, with lots of features such as torque & speed adjustment and a hammer function. Cheers to all and enjoy!

Speaking of power tools, I surprisingly got myself a near-brand new welding machine for 3K! An acquaintance of mine sold it to me last night because he needed the money. I guess it's time to learn how to weld. :D

This assumes you have experience and fund limitations, go for the corded drill first. Get some experience and fun. Later, get the more expensive cordless drill. Good Luck. ;)

My first power tool was a corded power drill with hammer. And then a power screwdriver, then a cordless drill, then a corded rotary tool. I was thinking of getting the 4-in-1 cordless power tool (drill, jigsaw, forgot the other 2 ;D ) of Black & Decker. Is this worth it?

Though its not really that powerful, i got it as a gift from my brother-in-law, a cordless drill. And also, recently, father's day, i bought myself a Dremel rotary tool

The 4 in 1 is like a swiss knife. Has everything but may not do everything well enough. If you do not remember the 2 other functions, then they may not be important to you. Why not just buy a jigsaw as you have a drill already?

There is also this jigsaw/hacksaw combo by Black & Decker. I am also considering this.

hi everybody! kamuka ng karamihan sa inyo, my first power tool is a 500watt AEG drill with hammer function, alaga sa once a yr lube, more than 10 yrs na ala pang nagiging problem xcept the occasional carbon brush replacement (ala ako mabili kaya gumagawa na lang ako from discarded starter motor brushes ng jip namin). dati nung umpisa DIY ako hirap ako magbutas lalo na pag stainless steel, (nagbabaga lang yung bit) yun pala aside from using orig bits the RPM should be low para kumagat yung talim. saka natataliman pala yung bit (kaya lang pag mali hasa lalong pupurol).

My first power tool? If I remember it right, ang first power tool ko ay isang 7" black and decker circular saw, then after that nakabili ako ng Bosch 2 speed electric power drill with hammer.
Then sumunod yung black and decker jigsaw, Makita router, Black and decker portable belt sander, a bigger circular saw (makita brand), and a portable orbital sander and lastly another electric drill/screw driver with variable speed (a smaller one, bigay lang kasi).
Meron pa palang addition 4" dewalt angle grinder and a dremel rotary tool kit.
I love carpentry and also love collecting power tools as a hobby.

hi guys! i'm planning to buy a cordless drill. any recommendations on what's a good brand and model? this is for home use only.
thank you in advance.
i prefer the cordless drill - with hammer (DeWalt).makes work easier specially when working in the ceiling
hammer drill na may cord peo pwedeng cordless.. its rechargable peo ibang iba tlga pag straight up ang power galing sa 220.. mas malakas!
my first power tool?? my hands :)

Cordless drill with hammer drill function.
I was taught that the drill is the best 1st tool. I bought my first one maybe 7 years ago. Bit by the "DIY bug" , I used it as a router and destroyed it. It was a DIY-grade Black & Decker.
What tools to have really depends on what you want to do. A drill however is ALWAYS needed one way or another.

Hi there,
I recommend a a corded drill with a hammer function
but go for the professional type for durability. I mean buy branded
ones like dewalt, bosch or black n decker. I for one purchase a bosch planer as my first powertool though I should have bought the drill first , anyway i found both to be very useful in my diy job in the house. congratulation on your first diy job.

I would say it would depend on what the DIYer would be doing most. If it's mostly wood working, it'd be a jigsaw. This would give him flexibility between straight cuts (specially with fences/guides) and curves. Plus, s/he'd have to to cut his/her panels first anyway.
IMHO. HTH.

couldnt agree with you more. i DIY alot of automotive stuff so a jigsaw would be of no use to me. however most of us here had the drill as their 1st PT, since drilling a hole is probably the easiest and most basic diy, and from there our skill are honed;D

hmm ,best powertool for diy starter is impact drill 1/2 or 13mm depends on what most suitable needs for you, whether its corded or lithium ion battery ..maingay kasi kapag ordinary drills and you can keep this for lifetime unlike sa de battery we all know na me lifespan ang mga battery..
my first ever powertool is corded drill and angle grinder until now buhay pa din using it for 3 years na..carbon brush lang pinapalitan until i bought my cheap new ryobi brand jigsaw, sander ..and now preferring to buy for circular saw kasi mas madami ko magagawa sa circular saw
