I'm evaluating these two models... not sure pa naman kung bibili or not...

The CRT (widescreen) is about a foot in depth & weighs as much as a sack of rice. But still, it is a lot slimmer & compact than other CRTs out there.

The LCD is just sexy... especially the ones from Samsung. But it still cannot match the brightness & clarity of the CRT. I can see some pixelation when viewed closely.

Mazda, the SlimFit is a very nice TV, nice colors, excellent audio - I had a unit demo last year but decided not to buy one.

However, I had read user reviews in the past that is questioning it's durablity. The SlimFit is about 1.5 - 2 feet deep so it would be a heavy unit. Also, it's not as efficient as the LCD in terms of power consumption.

In my opinion, you're better off with the CRT. But if you're going to use it with a PC or game console, the LCD would be the better choice.

from what i heard CRT is good kasi analog pa ang signal transmission from tv station, kaya nag-pixelation. LCD is nly good sa digital signals.

I believe Samsung has regular promos. Last month, for the 32in LCD models, they give discounts of P8,000 or if you want, a 21" TV worth 10,000+ pesos. I believe they also gave discounts for their slimfit TV's but since I was not interested, didn't inquire about it.

Personally, I like the LCD better. Less power consumption, less space needed and more modern looking. As far as pixelation is concerned, it should not be a problem if viewed from a distance.

LCD's are also more versatile as they can be connected too PCs or Macs to serve as additional screen displays.

The thing about LCD TVs is that they are A LOT more complex than the regular CRT TV. We not talking 2 or even 3 times an increase in complexity but maybe in the 1000 or more. The increased complexity leads to higher failure probabilities and there is really no way around it.

In layman's terms, CRT means cathode ray tube, a vacuum tube where its cathode is heated to produce a beam of electric energy and hit its tri-color phospor coated face to produce varying shades of colors while LCD means, liquid crystal diode, where special crystal semiconductors called diodes, are lined up in a substrate, and let video signals, analog or digital, to activate it to produce varying shades of colors. Digital signals from DVDs or analog signals from TV stations brings out similar response times as both processes the industry standard 30frames/sec format.

In short, they are two different technologies, with the latter considered a vast improvement of the former, in terms of picture quality, efficient energy use, and size. As to durability, since LCD, and plasma as well, have only been in the market for 3 or 4 years, then it is quite premature to judge it on that score. FYI, I bought a 32" LCD last christmas which I have used more often than my CRT TV nowadays and have not had any technical problems, so far. My choice? LCD or whatever new technology comes along.

The LCD screen of my Mac laptop which is 6 years old just developed a vertical red line in the right side of the display. I thought the main problem is that of dead pixels !! Well, I don't
have any dead pixels but now I have this red thin vertical line that is most obvious if the screen is black.

That does it for this LCD. Just last week, my Sony 29" CRT TV just died and the flyback & diodes in the PSU have to be replaced at the cost of almost 7,000 pesos (Sony Service estimate) !! That TV was purchased in the late 80's. Am not sure if it is worth fixing when a 29" Philips is 14+ grand only.

On the whole, CRTs last much longer than LCDs specially at the level of TV usage. It is another story for graphics/video designers/artists.

You save a lot of money in electricity though and maybe that is the ultimate/over-all reason why the LCD tops the CRT and thus is the future of TVs and monitors.

Cheers

CRT can be serviced most of the time
LCD can be disposed (i doubt you can actually repair a broken LCD screen)

CRT consumes more electricity (more than thrice)
LCD consumes less electricity

CRT produces heat
LCD produces less heat (probably even none)

CRT should be ventilated to prolong service life
LCD can work for longer hours without worry

CRT consumes more space
LCD consumes less space

CRT is cheaper
LCD is more expensive

CRT widescreen? yes there are few
LCD widescreen? cna easily be found

well for me i would go for LCD (can't actually buy one yet though)

for the previous post

my laptop is a 1995 model and still works fine
dell p2 128ram 32vram 20G HDD well you get the point
its OS is originally win95 then win2000pro but i formatted it about 4-5 years ago to winxp

and i don't have problems with my LCD screen even until now (i use it as a document editor and music player only now)

my only problem is that the attachment of my LCD to the actual laptop is detached on the left side... no problems though
