Anybody knows a good Fluke dealer with service capabilities?

My old Fluke 77 needs calibration and probably a new display. One digital segment seems to be " pundido" na.

Thanks

There is a shop along Raon bro that can repair and calibrate. Sorry I forgot the name. Also, there is a store in Home Depot in Fort Boni that seems to be the distributor of Flukes. I've not been there in quite awhile though.

I've been "fixing" my Flukes myself so please post what you find out because they could use some TLC from a pro.

I don't know what's wrong with the display because one segment is not lighting up so kulang lagi yung left most digit.

For calibration I don't have a regulated 3V DC power source with the proper accuracy to use for reference point. Do you happen to have such a power supply capable of 3.000V + or - .0005V.

This is the Fluke which had been acting up lately.

One of my Flukes had a similar problem. The reason was that the contacts between the LCD and the main circuit board were dirty and loose. The way to clean contacts is to use a pencil eraser which lightly abrade the contacts. The same applies by the way to all electrical contacts. A common mistake is to use coarse sandpaper.

Sorry bro, no supply, actually no regulated supply at all. My interest in electronics as a hobby is in a period of deep hibernation. What we could do though is compare the reading for my Flukes against yours if you like. I have two Fluke 87s which are 5-1/2 digit IIRC.

Bro,

Thank you very much for the kind offer.

Let me check the contacts first as you advised. I'll try to open it up tomorrow. Have you tried using contact cleaners before for this kind of display problem.

I had this unit for almost 20 years now and it's been very very slightly used. I'm done with electronics too and I just need it for basic stuff here and there.

Thanks again.

Contact cleaners ... sure, in another lifetime. Ever since someone showed me the eraser thing this is what I've used. I've on occasion I've still used contact cleaner but only when I could not use an eraser.

I agree a pro is way to go. Let me know what you find out.

Bro,

Got chance to check the Fluke but no luck. Looks like I need an LCD replacement.

I took out the LCD to have a look. Probably 20+ years had taken it's toll already. The meter is still usable except for this nuisance so I did not take it further and try to open the LCD itself. During it's prime Fluke must have kept spares since it's just a plug and play replacement.

Having nothing to swap test with I can only presume that it's the LCD itself.

This is the number segment problem

http://i514.photobucket.com/albums/t347/jzltraco/IMGP0116.jpg

It should also read VAC here but the AC is missing so another problem there.

http://i514.photobucket.com/albums/t347/jzltraco/IMGP0118.jpg

I'll use it as it is unless I find a spare.

Thank you so much for your help in trying to resolve the problem.

Jay

Thanks anyway.

Except for the nuisance naman the DMM performs well.

If upper right segment is out, I think you would not be able to tell 5 from 9, or 6 from 8.

I see Fluke LCDs on eBay every now and then. Usually cheaper than a used meter but not always.

Yes but luckily it's the least significant bit with a problem and usually display the decimal point value. I mostly use it for automotive work so for now it works as is.

I found a shop with a Fluke calibration tool but am not investing on recalibration till I get a new display. I now need to find out the exact P/N of the LCD display I need. It's a gamble also because the problem might not be the LCD.

Opened up the fluke again but this time I swapped the top and bottom elastomers. Same problem so that it leaves me no option now but to try and get a new LCD.

Got the LCD part number also JF640581.

I could be wrong but I think 5th Ave in SM MegaMall Cyberzone is a 'branch' of Avesco. You might enquire if they accept Fluke servicing there.

Flukes are the best. :)

Or prolly the liquid inside is already drying up due to age. I have chiwanese fluke look alike, I'll check of the LCD is somewhat similar as yours as most MICs (Made In China) do have carbon copy of the original thing.

I'm not saying this is a good thing to do but if all else fails, a cheap "Flukey" LCD would be a better choice to dismantle and try to use as a replacement. ( if the LCDs are almost identical in form)

I already contacted Avesco. They are the one who have the Fluke calibration tool and charge 2K for calibrating. The Fluke 77 is really not hard to calibrate but I will need a 3.000V supply to properly adjust it.

They don't have the LCD on stock.

I found another ebay seller and sent him an email already. This item is small and can probably be shipped by USPS going here.

The cost of the LCD is still way way below the price of a new Fluke 117 so I might as well try to give this 77 new life. The newer Flukes are also Made in China now.

Thanks a lot again for your feed backs.

I have a Fluke 77 that came from the old Clark Airbase, and I got it in the late '80s.

Still working now, but the rotary dial is a bit clunky. It 'over-extends' and does not stop
when it is in OFF. But other than that, everything still works.

BTW, FYI, I also have a later model (entry level) Fluke 10, and this old 77 w/ military spec, is still
better. The 9 volt battery lasts much much longer.

Haven't had them calibrated though, but then I never/don't use them in a 'lab' setting.

Cheers :)
