  • toilet leaking

@ froilanr from my experience, a leaking water in the toilet bowl can be due to things (1) the flapper as you mentioned and (2) the water valve assembly not closing properly either due to a defective valve or something is blocking the float causing it not to properly close the water valve ... this cause the water to continuously flow out to the overflow pvc pipe into the bowl. there is a small plastic tube that is part of the water valve assembly that is normally inserted into the overflow pipe. this is what fills the toilet bowl with some water after flushing.

to test which one is causing the leak. when the water closet is full, turn off the main valve outside (normally below/beside the bowl) the toilet bowl that supplies water to the toilet bowl. if water is still leaking after a few minutes, then the problem is with the flapper. from my experience, the flapper seldom breaks (e.g. may butas). the main cause is misalignment when it closes. check first if you can correct this before buying a new one.

if not, the problem could either be with the float or the water valve assembly inside the water closet. to test which one, open the main valve again. remove the cover of the water closet (do not put it back) and flush the toilet to drain the water. wait for water closet to fill. once full, check again for the leak. if there is no leak, the problem is with the float not rising properly due to the cover blocking it. to fix, simply adjust/lower the float level to correct the problem.

if it's still leaking after doing the above, then the problem is with the water valve assembly of the toilet bowl. you need to replace it. with the el nino and the water rationing that i read in the inquirer website yesterday, it's good to check the household water system for leaks to conserve water ... cheers

    Boo!
