  • Compact CO2 / MAG /MIG Welding Machince

Hello good people of Pinoy Handman!

    Question po.

    1. What does it mean by Compact CO2? ibig sabihin ba nito hindi sya pwede sa Argon gas?
I haven't tried MIG wala po ako idea arc lang. Until now dream pa rin hehe

Inaalok kasi ako ng OTC CPTX-210 Mig Welding Machine 2nd hand, the problem is, hindi rin marunong un
nag bebenta kasi sa tatay nila yun e kaso dead na. is this a good machine?
    Please help.

Another question, i went to Raon st. meron Mig welding machine a Tyler 200amps 23K
there's also JR Kawasaki 23K din both are inverter types and China made...
    Sulit kaya to?

    thanks!

Bro, from what I know, mig machines uses a shielding gas, CO2 in particular but would not produce a very
satisfactory smooth weld beads plus with more spatters. A mixture of argon/CO2 is more preferred or sometimes
helium/CO2, these mixtures have been proven to produce smooth looking weld beads and almost no spatters at all.

We have a member here who uses only CO2 as his shielding gas for his CIGWELD Mig machine, but of course
not that great and clean weld beads.

But you may not use a shielding gas if you prefer, that is if your mig process will be the FCAW (Flux core mig welding).

With regards to the Tyler or the JR Kawasaki brands, I have no information regarding their quality so no comment.
Its up to you to decide if you want to buy a unit and take a chance with any of the said brand.

        Hi bro,
i would like to show you for your referrence of using Co2 sheilding gas i tried this with my cigweld 150 & smartmig awelco 2200.

        AWELCO SMARTMIG 2200

        CIGWELD 150

Those are using 0.8mm solid mild steel with co2. You can notice there was a slight flux compared to mixed gas of smooth and good looking welds seams.

For the cigweld 150 welded to its maximum capacity thickness that was using 6 mm C channel bar.

For more details using mixed gas vs Co2 you can find it in you tube from JO of welding tips and tricks.com.

Solid state mig(transformer type) are more durable than inverter types. You dont even have to worry if its a 50hz or a 60hz unit. Inverter however are cheaper and saves lots of electric bill. So for home use its viable. But be prepared to shell out some extra cash when it goes down, parts and repair arent cheap. Not considering its availability of parts compared to transformer types whose parts are readily available from your friendly neighborhood electronic shops. A tip to those who would insist on buying inverters, look for brands that are heavier and bigger in size, these are definitely the good ones because they use transformers at the same time. Small and lightweight units are usually the lemon types as they are all electronic parts and have bad cooling *specs *(thats why they are lightweight, lacking or no metal heatshrinks and small fans). Remember electronics hate heat, and welding is a lot of heat. And to give you an idea how to check , a good 200a would be the size of a personal refrigerator and a lemon 200a would be the size of a medium size microwave oven or smaller..hope it helps *

Nowadays not all huge and heavier are durable and powerful. Mostly industrial company like shipyard they're using inverter type machine its light weight and portable. There is a huge difference in weight and sizes compare to transformer type like for example the termal arc 400Mts this is a 400 amps and weight only for 25 kgs compare to transformer mig on the same power it weight about 120 kgs imagine. But this inverter type is use for industrial. Like the Miller XMT series not included the suitcase and feeder it weight about 14 - 30 kls. When i was working in the shipyard before. We have a mig machine from UK made by philweeks its was warriormig 350 the machine weight only for about 15 kls at that time im using 1.2 mm mild steel marathon wire welding on the ship bulkhead assembly area the machine was installed on the automatic welding oscillator weaver set to160 amps at 12.5 mm high grade steel plate a continuous without break for 5 hours. Imagine! There are a lots of good brand in the market today like Fronius, lincoln, Miller, Thermal arc, esab, orlekon, lorch, SIF weld MTS, Everlast & etc. Your choice is always there at the end it depends on your purposes & budget. If you wanted to own a good one look for the well know brand and pay for the right price.
