Hi.

2 days ago, I just opened up a used Black & Decker hand drill that was somehow hidden and stored for almost 2o years, just to check how it was. Everything was mechanically sound, condition fairly excellent.

I also found the semi-dry grease on its gears are colored green. Is this also silicon based? Can I mix this with ordinary grease? or Totally replace all the grease? What type? Recommendations anyone?

I cleaned my Bosch drill sometime ago and replaced the dried grease, It might be an overkill but I used high temp grease because I had some left over from an axle job. Drill works fine now and unwanted noise gone.

Green grease is commonly used in fast-rotating gears most especially being used most in aerospace parts. It acts as well as ordinary lubricants and heat resisting compound that causes the grease to have its color green. Aeroshell is green grease, Aerospec is semi fluid grease (for high load gears and Fast rotating gears), Renolit or Molycote(for rubber sealant mated for metal contact). I think diy used to have this oil last year...
