Anchoring your pipes can eliminate the hammering and squeaking noises caused by loose pipes and fitting. Anchor exposed pipes to get rid of noises. Enlisting the aid of a professional may be necessary if any of the pipes are located in the floors, walls, or ceiling.

Do not give a plumber the entire payment for a job until the whole job is completed. It is customary to put down one-third to one-half of the total cost before the work is started, but do not pay in full until it is complete. It is a good thing to know the plumber did his job as he agreed to before he get’s all of his money.

TIP! Keep your plumbing flowing by maintaining a temperature above 32 degrees and wrapping up any exposed pipe works. But, be advised that your pipes may freeze if the surrounding temperature near those pipes is less than freezing.

Put the strainer on top of drains to catch any food that would go down and cause a clog. Clean debris from these strainers after each use. Those in the bathtub should be cleaned out periodically, as needed.

If your house uses well water and there are orange or pink stains in tubs or sinks, it’s because of the iron level in the water. You can deal with use by using a water softener, which is something you can get on your own at a local retailer, or by hiring a professional to come out.

Keep your bathtub drain running well by pouring a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar down the drain each month. Plug the opening or cover it with a cloth while the chemical reaction takes place. After about 10 minutes you can flush the pipes out with boiling water. This method clears out soap scum buildup and accumulated hair that gets caught in the pipes.

TIP! Make sure the job gets done by not paying your plumber until you are satisfied, and the work is completed. You might have to give them a deposit, but do not give them the entire sum of money until you are sure they have done a good job.

Overflow Holes

Be sure that the overflow holes are free of debris. You may not even notice the overflow holes on your sink, but if you have a major water leak you will soon regret your apathy. Inspect and clean the overflow holes as part of your regular household maintenance.

Swapping out old shower heads for energy-efficient ones can save you money on the energy bill. Most of the hot water we use is from showering. Investing just a few bucks in these newer shower heads can yield triple digit annual savings.

TIP! Don’t use bleach tablets, odor removers or those blue tablets in your toilet. They can clean the bowl and remove odors, but they also damage the soft plastic and rubber parts in and around your toilet.

Don’t use your toilet as a trash can in order to avoid problems. Don’t flush anything that is unlikely to dissolve and wind up clogging pipes, such as diapers, tissues, paper towels and cotton balls. Additionally, use the minimum amount of toilet paper required to clean up after you are done.
