I have this 45hp outboard motor circa 1965. I need to open up the lower part but I can't get all the bolts out.

I only was able to remove 4 of the 8. Another problem is that the bolts are in a position that will not allow me to use a bolt extractor. How do I remove them?

Here is a picture of one of the stuck bolts:

Re: How to remove a frozen bolt

you have a couple of options:
1. Soak it overnight with WD40.
2. If its an all steel assembly you can freeze it with a can of freezing spray.
3. If there is no danger of combustion and its aluminum assembly you can heat it up with a butane burner.
4. if all things fail, drill out the bolt head and use an extractor on the thread.

Re: How to remove a frozen bolt

Thanks but No. 4 is not an option because I would not be able to position the drill inline with the bolt head. I think I'll try the heating method. I've a cutting torch and that should do the trick. I'll of course use a cold flame.

Any suggestions on dealing with the loose allen head? I'm thinking I might grind down the next size allen key o maybe weld a regular hex bolt.

Re: How to remove a frozen bolt

space limitations forces me to use the tiktik method. Make a small notch where you may be able tap it to turn with a straight punch. tyaga-tyaga lang.

Re: How to remove a frozen bolt

apply WD40 or kerosene (more hazardous and dangerous though)
better if its soaked

than use power handles

Sir clayfigur is correct ..
With the use of below tool with modified head(wrench head) struck it with a hammer, that would solve the problem..

*Pyth, this is already the second time that we will be reminding you to post all for sale items on the appropriate thread. There are a lot of possible links that may help the member to do with his problems but not the one which links to a for sale item being sold by you. We do believe that you understand what we mean.

But the most effective way i think was to fuse/tig weld a piece of metal on top of it about a foot length so that once you rotate it enduced lever mechanical advantage would do the trick..

I agree with Jarod, Pyth. help if you want to help, sell if you want to sell, there are threads for each. I understand that you are the salesman that you are, but some seems misleading... sell, we don't stop you from it...
please keep it clean...
