Fellow diy'ers,
I need small cut sheets of clear acrylic for some DIY projects. Can anybody point me to where I can buy these? Maybe 2-3 mm thick is enough.
Also, what is the most efficient way to bend and fabricate the acrylic sheets?
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
Some people have recommended Kimika located in Malate for plastics. They are listed in the phone book. They don't deliver but you can buy odd sizes.
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
You can bend the sheet with a heat gun. Don't put it too close or you might melt it.
Mark the spot where you want to bend it with a pencil. If you are doing this by yourself clamp one side of the sheet or hold it in place with a heavy object. Place the marked spot at the end of a table and while holding the other end of the sheet, slowly apply heat back and forth along the mark. Once it's bent to it's desired form, hold it in place until it cools down. You can speed up the process by having a fan nearby blow onto it.
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
Manila Acrylic in Binondo. Right next to Binondo church.
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
Thank you very much guys, kenneth , 2diy4 and jessie 2. I have been trying to ask this question a long time. You are very helpful. I may try Binondo when I go to divisoria.
jessie2, by heat gun, you mean the one used with a cylindrical clear plastic glue that is melted or its like a hair dryer.. Any ways Ill try to look for a heat gun. thanks.

Hi timber715,
That is an interesting DIY. Can you post more details of it like heating media, board material etc. thanks.
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
If you live in QC, there is a shop along Aurora near TIP. Sign shops will also have acrylic. The last time I used acrylic I bought it from a glass and aluminum shop.
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
Where is the best/cheapest place to buy acrylic glass/perspex/plexiglas?
I got 6mm for about PhP1.9T/sqm at Aguila Autoglass in La Union. IMHO, the price you got looks ok. But it wouldn't hurt to shop around first. HTH.
PS: Say, do you have more details about K-Plast/Kimika? TIA
Safety first - always wear face/eye/ear/hand protection as a minimum.
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
What do you need to know about Kimika? I get engineering plastics from them.
Re: Acrylic sheets - where to buy
Oh, not much.
Was just thinking maybe those who have their (KIMIKA's) contact details (or actually deal with them) and any other info pertaining to them (most likely regarding acrylic sheets, as per this thread) could possibly post them in the Shop Directory like so... for everyone's reference and for future queries where to buy acrylic sheets. TIA.

They have websites --
http://www.kplast.net/
http://www.kimika.com.ph/
Supposedly, they are 'sister' companies. The newer one, K-Plast, is supposed to be for the building construction/'architectural' side while the original one, Kimika, is supposed to be for industrial side.
The plexiglas that K-Plast sells is 'Evonik', http://www.plexiglas.net/ . Supposedly it has a '30 year guarantee' of 'no yellowing'. I wonder whether this is a common feature of acrylic glass, or unique to Evonik, which might justify its higher price of P3,380 for 4 x 8 ft x 3 mm or P1,136.36/sq.m.

Hmmm ... I don't have my "blackbook" with me right now. Kimika is in the Yellow Pages. Sorry I can't give directions because I've never actually been to their store. I used to just have someone pickup the stuff I buy. Here is a tip though: don't get their initial nastiness discourage you. After you buy something, and they see you're a good customer, they'll be much more friendlier.
