Hi Guys, I'm planning to lay a concrete flooring for this area on my backyard. Approximately 10 by 20 feet wide, how much sand, gravel and cement would I need? Any suggestions and comments will be very appreciated. Thanks..

Re: Concrete flooring for backyard

Bro,

So if its just for human traffic, and at 4" thickness, prepare 5 or 6 bags of Portland cement, 3 cubic white sand and 2 cubic gravel, just an estimate lang,
better na pa sobra kesa sa maging kulang.
Maybe 10 pcs of 10 mm corr. steel bars for concrete support placed at 2 ft intervals (apart)
plus a kilo of # 16 tie wire.

Mixture of cement, white sand and gravel may be 1-2-3 or 1-3-3 or 1-3-4.

Hope this helps. 😉

thanks Rosy, very much appreciated reply. I didn't even think of the steel bars, would it not work without it? :thx:

Sir Rosy, kukulangin yang 5-6 bags. Yong area is 120 sq.ft or 18 sq.m. With a depth of 4 inches or 10cm. Therefore, 3m x 6m x 0.10m = 1.8 cubic meter kailangan yan ng 16.2 bags cement, 1.08 cubic m. sand, 1.8 cubic m.gravel, 18 pcs. 10mm steel bars.

Re: Concrete flooring for backyard

I know bro, medyo kulang yung bag of cement sa sinabi ko, if he will buy 6 bags, he will still need 3 more to cover the whole area. In my experience, a bag of cement plus the sand and gravel mixture can cover a 4' x 6' area, and there are 8+ of this in the approximated 10' X 20'. And I think the number of steel bars I have mentioned is just enough to support and hold the concrete from cracking since it is just for human traffic, if its gonna be for a driveway or a car park, then of course more steel bars will be needed.

Mahirap mag pa sobra ng order ng bag of cement at its cost now at 245.00 or 250.00 per bag, medyo mahal pa rin at kung walang pag gagamitan, titigas lang. 😮 Its ok for non perishables like white sand and gravel, can be set aside in one corner or spread to areas not to be cemented.

But still its up to bro OneSideBandit to do the adjustment para wala syang ma sasayang na materiales.

Cheers and good luck to his project !! 😉

Re: Concrete flooring for backyard

Good pm,

Make sure you slope your new floor slab away from your the existing slab.
this will ensure that rain water will drain away from your house and will
avoid ponding of water.

Also put some grooves or design sa new slab. your new slab doesnt have to be
a slab of boring concrete. this will give a little aesthetic appeal to it and will
function as "anti skid" design para iwas dulas pag basa.:)

You can google some interesting designs that might fit your fancy.

i used fallen leaves applied to the slab while wet to give it a nice
nature themed touch sa house ng parents ko.

looks nice and it didn't cost me a cent. 🙂

Re: Concrete flooring for backyard

Hey bro mig21,

Nothing really to be concerned about the type of sand to be used, whether white, gray or black sand, they are all the same.
I just mentioned white sand coz that is what them hardware people call them when I ordered some truck loads of sand a few years back.

Not really literally white but very very light grayish in color specially when its totally dry during the summer months.

Hope this helps ! ;):p

Re: Concrete flooring for backyard

Bro mig21,

Well you can just use the regular white sand for flooring mixed with the 1/4" size gravel.
The very fine sand (binistay), you use it for plastering or floor topping.

;)
