I've seen some industrial spaces that use concrete polishing for floors - looks awesome. Very industrial.
I have about 200sqm of my house I'd like to have this done. Anyone have experience with companies that do this well?
From what I understand you have to -
- Grind the cement down using several grits of sandpaper
- Polish the cement
- Seal it with a good concrete sealer
- Apply some sort of protecting layer
Anyway have advice on this? Is it worth it?
I could tile - but it's an indoor / outdoor space that I want to make consistent - and tiling 200sqm get's pretty expensive..

the only way to do concrete polishing inexpensively (as compared to having a contractor
do it for you) is to buy the portable polishing equipment and tools yourself.
be warned though. the long hours of polishing could be taxing for someone without the
experience.
do your research on planetary grinders and diamond blades.
and, if i am not mistaken, you have to import the equipment and blades yourself.
and then choose the correct sealer hardener. try not to use (cheap) sodium silicates as it causes your concrete surface to expand and exhibit what they call 'crazing' or spider web cracks.
personally, i'd recommend (expensive) lithium silicate based sealer and hardener.
as to having a contractor do it for you - here's two:
1. philippine diamond concrete polishing
2. high performance floors inc.
but i am not sure if they will accept 200sqm jobs.

ok this may or may not help, but i stopped by a shop along edsa across from what used to be Makro, but now is a different place supersaver? or something like that, they do concrete staining and polishing, however, as soon as we stepped into their "showroom" i looked at their floor and saw that either they don't care about their showroom or the service they offer is not what i would be in the market for. We obtained a quote anyway, and the cost difference between stain and polishing vs tiles for 60 sqm was maybe 6 or 7k pesos. and tile looks so much better with much less maintenance, i did a quick search on google and can't remember how i found that place before but if i remember the name of it i will post it.

A polished concrete floor may be inappropriate for a residence, where flip-flops are
common footwear. BTDT: physical injury and lamentation of biblical proportions is
a possible result. I suppose it depends on any finish-coating you may apply, but if
it wears down to bare polished-smooth concrete, ingat lang.

i've decided to just use oversized tiles, can't locate a good company (no response from emails to the two above)...
plus you're right - this is around a pool area - polished concrete would be slip hazard.
