Hello experts,

I'd like to know the estimates (# of bags of cement, sand + labor) in building a concrete pavement of a 1000 sq m lot.

Pavement should withstand medium-sized trucks (10 - 16 wheelers).

Thanks a lot!

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

Hello experts,

I'd like to know the estimates (# of bags of cement, sand + labor) in building a concrete pavement of a 1000 sq m lot.

Pavement should withstand medium-sized trucks (10 - 16 wheelers).

A strong foundation is essential for this sort of job, material compacted to 96% Modasho.
The thickness should be min. 8", the strength of concrete not less than 25mpa. the water content of the conc. should be as low as possible, bearing in mind that it has to be worked. You may want to rein-force the conc. with a mesh.
Are you planning to do this concrete work yourself? better to get a readymix conc. that way the strength is consistent and guaranteed.
You will need movement joints ever 25 sq.m. (so 5.0m x 5.0m would be good. With a compressible material between the joints.
The new conc. should be kept wet for at least a week, you can do this by covering the new work with plastic sheeting.
It sounds as though you are planning to do/supervise this work yourself.
Quantities are 1.0m.3 of sand, 0'8m.3 of stone per 1 m.3 of conc. The cement content, better get a structural eng. to advise you. These are good guide lines but seek professional advise.
Pls show this to a structural eng. and get his opinion on what I have written. 1000 sq. m. is not a small job.
good luck

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

Thinking about this if you are going to do /supervise this work yourself better add to both the thickness and strength of the conc.
I would suggest you do not try and do too much in one day and employ enough labour to do the job properly.

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

Will renting a small cement mixer do the job better and faster at a more economical way?

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

The most efficient way to do the worl is divide the lot into (say) 5.0x 5.0 m. squares and shutter on a 'hit and miss basis. Also allow enough gradient and drainage on the finished work for storm-water run-off.

If you chose to do/supervise yourself, then the mixer you need to hire is of a size called 14/10 (14 cubic feet in 10 out) it must have a working weigh scale, scoop and most importantly a water gauge.
Pls note this is not a small job you are taking on.

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

Frankboase is right. Better consult a civil or structural engineer. Thickness of concrete and reinforcement bars are critical in this job. There will be live load on the concrete floor. Planning on the drainage system is also needed.

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

Hello ALL,

Thank you very much for all your inputs. It seems that it is going to very expensive on my part if I'm going for that setup. My primary purpose for the pavement is for "Bilaran" of corn and rice.

What if i choose 25% of 1000 sq m. will be strengthen pavement (8") and the remaining 75% will be 2"? What do you think?

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

@icewebber,

how about 6" of concrete with 10mm roundbars of about 1 foot apart, yung timpla ng cement i forgot medyo matagal na. My idea for the bilaran is yung gitna is elevated by about 18" at yung length per side is about 10m. If it rains just push the palay/corn in the middle and cover with tarpulin, to avoid water getting inside the tarpulin and para rin matuyo agad yung semento.

As frankboase said its best to divide the lot according to how fast your contractor/people wiil be able to finish a certain part.

You are exactly right Jay, the middle part should be elevated. What do you mean dun sa "length per side of 10 m"? Im guessing you know the setup dun sa bilaran, any more tips?

Sir, medyo tight ang budget and I'm still exploring other methods to achieve my goal. Yes you are correct, I'm going to supervise and do the planning myself.

On the cheaper side, Im planning 6" (reinforced pavement: around 250 sq. meter) for the front part of the lot so that medium sized trucks can get it. The rest will 2-3" (will that suffice?)

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

Sir what I mean by the 10 meter per side pala is the possible gradient of 10m span ay 18" ang tinataas nya. I have seen some solar dryers in Bicol region that has a very high gradient hindi na sya maganda in my opinion.

Sir can you define to me what gradient means, sorry I do not know much about construction. From another forum, may nag suggest na gumamit na lang ng drying machine as against sa pavement. What do you think?

Re: Estimate for concrete pavement

based in my experience & from an engineers/friend our cement/sand/gravel mixture is 1cemeny 3pail sand & 4pail gravel (we use a 4 galloon pail) this mixture will cover 1 cu.m

Sir yung inclination ng pavement 18" for every 10meter na lapad. Pero kung gusto nyo po taasan or babaan pwede rin. Wala naman pong tama or mali jan depende kung san pa ang kanyang use.

Mechanical dryers are good if you know how to fix them, if you have biomass heat source and if you will use it often sir.
