Are "fillings" really necessary for Hardiflex boards? This is my first time to use Hardiflex and I would also like to "sound proof" rooms in the house. Well, not really to keep things quiet, but good enough so that loud voices cannot be heard in between rooms. 😉

A friend of mine suggested inserting styropor/styrofoam boards in between as an alternative to fiber/wool; would this do the trick? Is this also safe? I am wary of a potential electrical problem + stryrofoam combination.

Most cost effective material to use for sound proofing is fiberglass or rockwool. Yes yo can use it as filling between boards but be sure that you seal it completely since it's a skin irritant. And also if you are just using it between walls then sound may leak from the ceiling instead so better put some also.

Re: Filling for Hardiflex wall and soundproofing

before thinking of soundproofing, please secure , and i mean secure the steel frame inside the walls, making sure that there wont be rattling sound, the studio that we build before, we had to put another set of framing kasi the void in between walls helps din to soundproof. also apply sealant, gap sealer between walls, bottom ( the one connected sa slab) and top (the one conected sa ceiling) before painting, use paintable gap sealer.

i would use gypsum board instead of hardiflex though, unless you are willing to use hardiflex thats 6mm thick for the walls that you are building

short pointers that i can remember. sabi nga, make it

Thanks for the great tips mga masters! I'll take all of these in mind. Buti na lang may PHM, otherwise, I would have done it wrongly. 😉
