Re: Iroko hardwood or african teak

Hehehe... O sige na nag Brader, Let's call it " Gorgeous IROKO HARDWOOD ".;):D

By the way, This is the wood i wanted to recommend for your church door build. Maybe this design will work for you on account of the building's straight lines and details. What do you think?

thinking what i am thinking sir willyfernando...
i like straight lines since it is easy to build than curved once...
the swmbo likes it too.

i notice there are many hinges used to hang the door,
is it too heavy?

need i say more, the master like the wood...:icecream:

the project isn't going smoothly as plan...
still on the process of waiting for the church door plans and design
form a friend architect.

thank you very much sir willyfernando...

Hi jon,

The door i posted is 1.83m x 2.20m x 2" thick oversized. It weighs around 150 kilos so we had to use a special brand of hinges called BALDWIN. Though it was VERY expensive still it handled the weight issue of the door. Notice how we distributed the hinges unevenly. The upper set having more units or tighter to help control sagging.

Re: Iroko hardwood or african teak

This one is an original design of mine. They wanted a cobble stone pattern but i sampled an annular ring pattern of a tree trunk cut crosswise. The result is a 160 square meter spread of a giant tree trunk core. Some say it looks like a base of a space ship. What do you think?:chop::vader: By the way, this is a ceiling treatment for a garage entrance of a house in one of my projects. Each line or ring represents a 4mm x 22 mm wood strip laminated together in a ring pattern using epoxy adhesive and will be sealed and topped w/ Polyurethane.

that's very heavy...
and clever hinge positioning.

oh! and the design of your side panel will be good for the church door project too.
just like the rough plan i made.
now, this is where my problem arise...
i will i incorporate that design to my project ?
say, what joints will i make for the frame to make it stable considering the heavy door weight ?
how will i fastened the frame to each other and to the concrete post ?

OT na ba ako ? hehehehe...

Re: Iroko hardwood or african teak

@Ding,

3 months, 12 workers and a whole lot of love. Thats what it took to come up with the tree ring design. I'd do it again if i had the chance. I still have a few designs I want to feature but it usually takes a brave client and consultant/architect to make my vision come true. Sigh, I wish we had a lot of them brave souls.

@Rosy,

Thanks for appreciating my art. From one artist to another it is a joy to share different mediums but the same thirst for passion and dreams. Panalo ka na rin basta marunong ka lang mangarap kahit di ka tumaya sa Lotto.

@jonathancruz68

It's easy to install the Jamb set to the frame of the church. You just need to use the right frame size for such a heavy door set say 2" x 8" jamb frame. You can use that design 'coz it's not exclusive to my client. Ok lang kahit OT, para kay LORD naman yan eh.:):pope:

Re: Iroko hardwood or african teak

In my opinion, this wood definitely compares and competes with most hardwoods in the industry. In fact, it was my perfect choice to replace Narra w/c is commonly used in our country for flooring and sash, etc.

Sir Willy,

Can you PM me how much is the cost/sq.m of Iroko flooring? Let say 220 sq.m floor area.

Re: Iroko hardwood or african teak

@willy
does the epoxy you use also give strength? could it be used to restore bukbok damaged wood by filling up even internal spaces?
