Hi. Is it okay to use tek screws to join 2x3 wood pieces? I'm building a storage rack and I'd like to consult you guys first if the 2 1/2" tek screws can withstand shearing load.

It depends... on how much load is going to be carried by the screw... which is highly dependent on your design.
We can help you better if you post the drawing of your design.

Correct me if I am wrong. For wooden furniture, it is the glue that really binds the joints. Screws are there to stabilize the joints while the glue is drying. So use a good glue. But of course no harm in using a screw for added strength.
