Re: materials for skylight
yung balcony mo ba is may roofing or total exposed sya? Try glassblocks on angle bars mas cheaper rather than tempered glass. less cost pa kasi angle bars lang gagamitin mo for frame then put the glassblocks. then put grout sa pagitan ng mga glassblocks.
Re: materials for skylight
I stand corrected, TEMPERED glass is not suitable for flooring purposes, I'm sorry for the ill advise. Laminated Glass is the way to go.
Re: materials for skylight
i have thought about putting a skylight (during the design phase) in the house we are building and the only thing i can think of is plexiglass (at least 19mm thick) ... its strong and durable, i used it before to convert my circular saw into a table saw for cutting plywood ... just not sure if it will turn yellowish over time as its also basically made of acrylic material ... i decided not to pursue the skylight in the roof deck as i'm worried about leakage in the long run ... i just opted for another option of using glass blocks at 1 side of the living room to provide natural lighting inside the house ... cheers

Re: materials for skylight
one more thing, glass blocks is a good flooring material ... i saw this at Nanyang Poly in SG (my son's previous school). they made a walkway to connect 2 bldgs using glass blocks in the main atruim, it was really quite nice to look at ... and they use metal trusses to support the glass blocks all throughout the walk way ... something to think about ... if you can use it as a flooring material, then you can also use it for a skylight on the roof ...
