I saw this product (steel wire perimeter fence) last week at Citi Hardware (Marbel). it's similar to the steel wire fence i see a lot in Singapore. the cost is P3350.00 per set consisting of 2.5m x 2m high wire fence + 1 square metal pole (60mm x 60mm) + 3-4 clamps. this is really the type of fence i wanted for our farm lot as it will ensure no wind obstruction in our place. the only problem is the cost, with a lot perimeter of 120m, that would cost me, P402K to cover the area. even if i cut the wire fence into half (1m high) and use 6" CHB for the lower part of the fence, it will still cost me P201K which is still way out of my budget for the perimeter fence ... the big question is can i do it on my own at a manageable cost and better (it needs some changes in the design of the vertical wires to improve the rigidity of the wire fence on its own)? ... i really wanted to do it (design and install it) on my own as my end goal is to put vibration sensors all throughout the perimiter fence to detect intruders as part of my other project which is a home automation system 🙂 ...

while helping my wife with the laundry, ako yun taga sampay ng mga damit 🙂 ha ha ha ... her auntie (our neighbor) is using this really old sampayan wire. for more than 10+ years it never rusted even without any paint or protection on it. it just gave me the great idea of using this type of wire as the main material for the wire fence 🙂 ... got my trusty caliper and measured the wire, its 4mm thick (really quite hard to bend) and i think it's made of "asero" which is why it never rust ... just perfect for the fence i have in mind 🙂 he he he ...

next step, need to do the math of how much steel wire will be needed for the fence and see if the cost is manageable to me. i also need to find a supplier (marbel, gensan, or davao) for the 4mm thick wire, either steel or asero ... i think making the wire fence is quite simple, all i need is 2 jigs, one for bending and forming the vertical wire (the horizontal wire is just a straight wire) and another jig for setting up the wires (vertical and horizontal) for spot welding the pieces together ... my father-in-law already has a welding machine which i'm currently using now for spot welding the steel decks 🙂 ...

next time i go to citi hardware, i'll take a photo of the product and post it here ... i'll update everyone of the cost per meter based on the design of the fence i have in mind ... worst scenario, if its still out of my budget, i'll just have to settle with using hog wire mesh (i don't like to use cyclone wires as the quality is not that good) and malungay trees as post for the perimeter fence ... it's the cheapest (and practical) i can think off and the good side of it is that i will have a lot of malungay leaves for my favorite dish, ginisang monggo 🙂 he he he ... cheers

additional note, the product i saw at citi hardware was painted green. spray painting the wires with primer and paint is too costly and quite wastefull as the surface area to be painted is quite small and far apart ... which is why i need to find a 4mm wire that can withstand rust in an outdoor environment without any paint or primer ... asero or pundido yung wire as my workers call it here ... cheers

I do not know how the steel wire fence you saw looks like. But if it costs a lot for you, there must be some cheaper alternative available here.

How about an interlink fence? Quite common in the Philippines. Readily available.

There is also a square pattern steel fence (not sure how it cost).

And you can also use steel matting but I am not sure this will be cheaper.

i think what i saw at citi hardware is an interlink fence - why its expensive is because you buy it as a set and just assemble it. i need to check at the local hardware here if they sell just the welded wire fence and how much it cost. the "square pattern steel fence", they call it here "steel mesh" are more expensive, they are sold per piece the size of a 4' x 8' plywood ... galvanize welded wire interlink fence is i think the best suited for my needs ... i just hope that the price is within my budget ... cheers
