what can you say about PVC roofing? i never had any experience with this, nor have i seen any structure installed with one.
im thinking of its pros is that its rust free, dont need to paint it, it looks good(imagining garage walls using this). easier to cut to size.
my reservation is with longevity, how long will it last with our tropical sun, and ive seen fiberglass roofing crack and blister like crazy only after 2yrs.
Re: PVC roofing
Once considered PVC roofing and sheets due to the claimed lifetime and thermal advantages, but then read all about the environmental issues around its manufacture, disposal, toxic gases during a fire, the 'poison plastic', etc. (e.g., according to Wikipedia, California is considering banning PVC in 'consumer packaging').
Bad enough that PVC is ubiquitous (pipes, wires, etc.) so we decided not to add to the environmental problem and opted against using PVC in areas where it is easily avoidable like roofs, windows, doors, etc.
Re: PVC roofing
ok thanks, will consider this.

I quite agree, I argued on two occasions with supermarket check-out counter personnel forcing me to take a plastic bag for a cola that i had started drinking, even when I refused the bag, citing environmental reasons.
On the other hand, I opted for 1 sheet of PVC (translucent white) for our garage roof for the simple reason that I wanted to minimise use of electricity for lights, since that area is also multi-purposed, and I wanted to minimize mosquitoes. It also includes the laundry area.
A few years back, I had tried to use corrugated sheets made of fiber glass (says the hardware guy) but it started to turn yellowish and even darker later on, signs of deterioration showed within a year.
However the PVC (costing much more than GI or fiber Glass) installed 7 months ago til now had not shown any changes at all.
Altho I have no references nor comparison between brands for both these items.
Hope the info helps. 🙂
Re: PVC roofing
fiberglass does tend to age horribly. it becomes so brittle that even cats walking on your fiberglass roof could give it a crack. sm plastic bags ive heard are already biodegradable. try leaving it under the sun for about 2weeks and it will crumble like hopia flakes;)
is was wondering how long pvc stuff would last? cause if it dont crack or blister i wouldnt have any reason to throw it away and create trash right?
