Re: REBARS inside poured concrete !

Yup, I reckon I'll be doing do that, consult with a structural engineer on what's the best remedy for that beam and how to repair it. Anyway, I am not pushing this but just want to know, will fixing the rusted rebars without the load work ? Like cutting that rusted portion then re-welding a new piece then covering it up with new plaster.

Just curious here and simply trying to get some other options !!

CIGWELD Weldskill 250 amp Mig Welder
AHP Alpha-TIG 200X welder
HITRONIC 300 Amp DC Inverter IGBT Welder
YAMATO 300 amp AC Stick Welder
YAMATO 200 amp DC Inverter IGBT Welder
DeWALT Chopsaw
HOBART and ESAB Welding Helmets
cloned STIHLs

MS 070 chainsaw

Not with a RC beam, and especially not with its bottom bars.
Add. Never subtract.

As I described above: if (after cleaning) the steel is revealed to have thinned out
too much, you're better off splicing new bars to the old, using lots of #16 GI wire
to try to get back to the original-design sectional area of steel.

Bro horge,

Just checked the link you posted and saw the same problem encountered in the various pics, so do you think I have a chance to be DIYing it my self following your earlier suggestions before it gets too late ???

In your shoes, I'd repair the RC slab. At least you'd get a feel for how to do
similar repairs in the future. It seems an amateur-level kind of repair, given
the type of RC member involved (suspended 2-way RC slab).

The RC beam is another matter. The only way to assess how bad it is, is to
expose more steel than is presently-visible, and (of course) have the training
to assess how bad it is.

I can't tell how bad it is from just a photo. The corrosion could be localized
and thus repairable, or it could be widespread but hidden under concrete
that's just about to spall next. It could be a DIY job ... or it could be strictly
for a professional. You could play safe and get a pro to take a look.

Re: REBARS inside poured concrete !

IMHO: you can apply rust converter at those rusted rebars, apply a primer, and lastly plastering/cornerings..
