yesterday we visited the house of my wife's auntie which is near the motocross event as part of the Tinalak 2015 Festivali here in south cotobato. i saw their chicken coop whose roof was made (covered with) of rice husk (e.g. ipa). the rice husk provided good heat insulation to the coop even if the height of the coop is quite low. with my DIY attitude,i can't help myself to inspect how they did it 🙂 ... here are the photos and the things i have noted while inspecting how it was made ...
- the roof was basically made of flatten bamboo (1st part), then covered with ordinary trapal (2nd part), then held with round bamboos all along it's sides, and then covered with rice husk (3rd part) on top until it's just below the edge of the bamboo at the side. the depth of the rice husk depends on how big your bamboo is, i estimate it to be about 2-3" in diameter.
- the rice husk was compacted by sprinkling (drenching) water on it. they said that no need to put a net on top of the rice husk as once compacted, it won't be blown away by the wind ... cheers
Boo!
