Hello sa lahat,
Tanong ko lang po sirs, how does steel frame house construction fare against CHB/Column-Beam? This is in both price and durability in the Philippine setting (typhoon and earthquakes). ???
I saw this company and it got me thinking.

Thanks and more power.
Re: Steel Frame House
The steel frames you mentioned are only for internal dividers and walls. They are very suitable, practical and cost effective. Light steel studs and tracks are used, covered by gypsum board. The wall produced is light and easily painted, and very smooth. Savings are not only in the wall itself and materials, but also in labor and in the structure itself. CHB walls may need beams underneath them. But steel and gypsum board partitions can be placed anywhere.
Construction of entire houses using steel is not yet done much in the Philippines, except for trusses which are almost universally constructed of steel angle bars and purlins.
There was an advertisement in the past of using steel as structural members, by Jacinto steel, covered by Hardiflex panels. But I have not seen this advertisement ever since.
You could look at the possibility of using square tubes as columns and heavier angle bars as tracks for structural purposes. You can cover the outside with cement fiber board, followed by a stucco or mortar coating. The inner wall can be of gypsum board. Spaces between the studs can be filled with foam or insulation.
Best to ask a structural engineer to determine stresses.
Re: Steel Frame House
yes i believe jeasteel produces light gauge metal framing and not steel framing.
in my line of work i have encountered a few houses using steel columns and beams i.e. i-beams, wide flange beams, and combination columns. they tend to have smaller sections compared to reinforced concrete columns and beams. what i dont like about steel structures is that they tend to sway and move about. not because it will fail but because steel is more flexible than concrete
Re: Steel Frame House
Hello again,
About the swaying siguro naman kulang sa supporta yun. Not to be deterred I continued my search(affirmation aka kulit, hehehe) and taking into account 2diy4's info, I came across this Jacinto steel site http://www.info.com.ph/~jacinto/jbsi.htm and the system comes from the land down under!! malakas ang hangin dun specially sa Western Australia. Doing it yourself they say you just need simple tools like, Tin Snips, Tek Screw Driver and Spirit Level. If this turns out to be that easy, I know what my future house construction will be. By the way ain't got no house to call my own yet.
Thanks again sa info.
Re: Steel Frame House
When I asked at the Jacinto display around 10 years ago, the cost was way above some other systems. But perhaps the cost was the fibercement wall system that they used in the exterior, which was simulated wood.
Re: Steel Frame House
Has anyone found a source of steel frame door jambs? I am looking to replace all the wood frames in my house because of termites. The walls are concrete block construction.
Re: Steel Frame House
For the steel jamb, I had mine fabricated. May binebenta sa may ortigas home depot, pero it comes with steel door, 5thou lang.
Re: Steel Frame House
LEC steel would be your best bet.
GACA CONSTRUCTION
Re: Steel Frame House
Any steel fabricator with a sheet handling capability can do it. Steel door jambs are not very popular which I believe is the only reason we don't see many. Make sure they are well painted, or better hot dip galvanized.
Re: Steel Frame House
I went to worldbex 2 years ago and there was a company that did steel houses - from framing to doors to windows (sliding windows too). Here is their website:
http://www.rapidforming.com/
regarding doors - try looking at companies that do roll up door - they also have steel door and door jambs

P5000 is too much for a steel frame door jambs..depends highly on how big your doors are? my price ranges from 3000 to 4000 per steel door jambs..you just need to pick them up...Im living in Cavite. I can also supply you some materials that you may need.gypsum board for walling, lightweight steel frames etc. email me at @yahoo.com">hunkdude27@yahoo.com
Re: Steel Frame House
Is there still interest in steel-framed houses in here? I will build in Laguna in about 3 years, and I think steel-frame is the way to go, for a number of reasons. I am from Oz, there are companies here that do them for export, not expensive by Oz standards, and maybe buying a flat-pack kit and shipping it would be they way to go. But I would like to know if there are Pinoys who do this - seems suitable for the Phils environment.
Not real keen on concrete beam construction in tropical climate - light and flexible construction with plenty of through breeze is the thing. Also like to use as little wood as possible - termites!

Would you know where to get stucco in Metro Manila? I am interested in making a stucco finish but not sure where to find the material.

Are you referring to the stucco plaster sir? If yes, try Merlex stucco plaster.
22y did you ever build the house with Steel Frame? was it economical?
