Re: tung oil

Is there a shipping company that will ship those kinds of substances? I think even those door to door shipping doesn't allow flammable materials to be shipped.

But if im wrong, count me in..

Re: tung oil

The list of restricted items from one door to door shipper includes 'combustible' and 'hazardous' materials.

Another shipper does not mention 'combustible' or similar terms in its list of restricted items.

The safety sheet from one dealer of 100% pure tung oil says:
Raw tung oil is not a hazardous material under current [US] dept of labor definitions.
Flammability Classifications: DOT - Not Regulated
Flash Point: Above 250 deg F

The sheet from another dealer of 100% pure tung oil says:
Flammability: 0
Transportation Information: DOT NON REGULATED

In any case, it would be good to have a local source for 100% pure tung oil.

Re: tung oil

Actually Raw Tung Oil (RTO) are readily available here in our country. Its being used by printing ink manufacturers(oil based inks for offset/letterpress printing inks) as vehicles/binders. Its a substitute for the more expensive Linseed oil.

hi, do you know of any local suppliers of raw tung oil or tung oil here in metro manila ? or nearby provinces.
Are they also sellinf RTO at arts painting stores. I know that they use these oils for canvass painters of oils.

Re: tung oil

If local source cannot be found, then...
assuming minimum order quantity from China is one drum (55 gal),
what would landed cost be,
how much interest (committable gallons) is there,
who would be motivated enough to buy at least one drum, dole it out over time, and shoulder initially the uncommitted gallons.

The landed cost from China (savings vs. US) is probably a key question.

Otherwise, the US cost per gallon (not counting shipping) is not much different from locally available Zar.

One China exporter that pops out from web search:

Re: tung oil

I don't know of any local source of pure tung oil.
This does not mean that pure tung oil is not locally available.
A previous post or posts in this thread suggested that it is.
However, nobody has reported any specific source so far.

Re: tung oil

I still haven't gone around looking for this since I still don't have the need. I believe that this is available since there is a local requirement for it. maybe I will go around looking for some next month, when I find the time...
