Re: Waterproofing a cement roofdeck
Has anyone tried Campbridge Rubber Coat?
http://www.campbridge.com/RubberCoat%20Technical%20Info.htmlApplication seems straightforward and can be DIYed.
I emailed Campbridge to check if the product can be used for outdoor applicationss. This is their reply:
"RubberCoat is made from SBR rubber same as the material used for car tires.
It should be coated with an elastomeric paint if exposed outdoors to
protect it from UV rays."
Re: Waterproofing a cement roofdeck
My 40sq. meter open terrace was waterproofed last last year by using Bostik Powermix and topped with tiles using the proper tile adhesive cement. It solved my 6-year tagas problem, the cost was around 35k..magastos talaga ang tagas.
Re: Waterproofing a cement roofdeck
on topic of waterproofing - has anyone tried "maxseal" cementitious water proofing? my friendly paint store recommended a bottle of it worth p180. supposed to be mix with cement, prior to primer and final paint coat.
Re: Waterproofing a cement roofdeck
HI rosy, thats what I was thinking too, if the concrete cracks, given that its thin and the substrate that it adhered is rubber. I guess, only time will tell. Anyway, its main purpose is to protect the rubbercoat underneath for foot traffic.
I guess if they unbond, then it will be the whole, just like tiles, especially if the slab is flexy. Anyway, if this happens, then redo the concrete topping, probably with 3 inch concrete with 9mm reinforcing bars at 60cm. 🙂 Though hopefully not because it would mean a lot of work and budget involved.
Koy, I bought 1 pail of Campbridge Rubber Coat, my concrete roof has a Primero Multiseal for more than 3yrs and its pourong like falls inside my room and so i decided to try Campbridge Rubber Coat, It's a DIY Project. Do I need to remove my existing water sealant before I apply the Rubber Coat?
Hioping for your immediate response.

I think you dont have to remove the existing application, as long as it is not loose. Please read the info in the link I posted earlier in the thread.

My apologies for reviving an old thread. I'm due to pour concrete on my roof deck. I've read the responses in this thread but got more confused because of the wide range of choices in waterproofing.
My contractor's suggestion:
Sahara mixed with cement then top with Thoroseal
Based from the responses here:
Campbridge Water Shield or Bostik Powermix mixed with cement then top with elastomeric paint (ex. Flexseal)
Which one should work better? Thanks!
I've been reading up on waterproofing roof decks too and I read that Campridge Super Seal mixed with Campbridge Acrybond are very good. They are highly recommended by fishpond enthusiasts.

Thanks sir! I got the Water Shield instead because I was looking for something integral to the cement mix during the first application (concrete slab). I saw Campbridge Acrybond from the website and it looks good. Is this used during topping of the concrete slab?
Flex Seal looks good due to its wide range of colors, I'm not sure however how it performs when used in roof decks. Di kaya mag peel due to traffic since I won't be putting tiles on my roof deck?
Yes Acrybond is for topping or coating.
Flex Seal is an elastomeric paint so, like other paints, it will require maintenance or recoating. In our building, the elastomeric paint lasted around 5 years.
@ lite751, what you really need to watch for in your roofdeck is to check your plan and talk to your foreman about the slope of the roofdeck ... the main reason for a leaking roofdeck is water pooling (yun tubig na iipon sa roof deck at hindi efficiently na punta sa drain ng roof deck) ... you eliminate pooling in your roofdeck and you won't have any problems with leaking roofdeck. this was what i really monitored (the critical advice from my archi/engineer friends) in our house when they manually (it's more difficult when done manually) poured the concrete on our roofdeck ... water will always seek it's own level, so water will always flow to the lowest level (e.g. drain canal), if your roofdeck is sloping on one side of the house, where the canal is, then you won't have any problems of water building up in your roofdeck ... also take note, your drain canal should also have a slope going to the downspout of your roofdeck ... cheers
Boo!
Thanks sir Boo for the tip. I took note of this and had my slope at 1.5in (3m width). Had 5 3 inch floor drains installed on the side (10m length). Hopefully this will prevent pooling. I used steel deck for forming as well.
Now the weakest link would be where the slab meets the wall. I'm not sure if Campbridge Rubber Coat could do the trick.
You can use a waterproofing membrane or mat for that (slab/wall). It's available in depots.
... "Now the weakest link would be where the slab meets the wall. I'm not sure if Campbridge Rubber Coat could do the trick." ...
@ lite751, another thing to take note if your roof deck's concrete was manually poured ... no matter how good your workers are, there will always be some areas on the roof in which the slope of the deck will not be consistent based on the plan - e.g. area where they are mixing the concrete for pouring. this results in water pooling when the rain stops. in my case, the critical problem happened with the slope of the drain canal (10m length, width of the house) from one side to the other side of the house where the down spout is located. there was some area in the canal, where pooling occurred, kasi yun GI sheets use for forming the canal was not properly laid out during the pouring ... the simple solution my foreman did was to cut out a small canal in the middle of the drain canal so that water will move to the lowest level. it really works, i tested it with 1-2 cups of water from one end of the drain canal and all the water went freely to the downspout. galing ng idea ng foreman ko talaga 🙂 he he he ...
you can use the same principle for the area in your roof deck between the floor drains in case of water pooling ... cut a small canal between the 2 floor drains. the slope should be from the middle going to each of the drain. this will also help to prevent the water from going to the side (and building up) of the roof slab where it meets the wall beams ... cheers
Boo!
Sir, eto po ba yung waterproof rubber membrane? I have been searching din po ng waterproofing sa roofdeck namin kaya ako napadpad dito sa forum. Nakita ko din yung campbridge website but I don't know kung maganda ba yung rubber membrane. Sino po ang naka try na?
