What are the characteristics of Gmelina(Melina) wood? How suitable is this for a bed frame? As compared to Mahogany or Tanguile.

TIA.

Re: Wood for bed frame

Gmelina is a hardwood I think, but like Pine, it really isn't very hard and has the tendency to crack a lot when stress is applied. well depending on what you do on the bed, I suggest you choose another wood like Mahogany or tanguille for durability...

Re: Wood for bed frame

If wood source and budget is not an issue, get a narra otherwise gmelina is more than enough.

Pero come to think of it, even the local tanguile is competent enough for the job. Just add extra supports or aprons for peace of mind.

I'm choosing between Gmelina and Mahogany.

now why would you want to remove the rocking movement? 😀

seriously, I would rather use Tanguille or better yet Mahogany over Gmelina on a project that would have long stretchers that would be under constant stress... like rocking :p
