Re: Deluxe Router Table build

Have any of you guys experienced swelling in your mdf without it getting wet? Part of my router fence has started to swell..i might need to change it sometime soon. I suspect it is because my workshop is semi open..i also noticed some parts had mold in them already.

if it gets exposed to the elements even under a roof will produce that. still moisture is the culprit for that. otherwise, baka kapitbahay mo yan bro... naiingayan... πŸ˜€

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

For the top and fence, MDF is more reliable for flatness than plywood...

Moji seal your MDF with sanding sealer or lacquer.

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

word of caution again for MDF users.

it contains formalin...and formaldehyde vapors come out to reach your nasal passages.

and formalin of course is carcinogenic...for the development of nose cancer (at least in animal tests).

get some protection!

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

Just finish applying formica on the top and rounding up the corners.

Then chamfer top and bottom edges.

This is the hard part making templates for the router plate took haft a day to figure out. It seems that a 1 ½” diameter hole fits the tricky curve edges of the router plate.

Lay out the guides then used pattern making bit.

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

Slip fit with no side to side play.

Now I have to work on the back. I will used the same technique I did before.

I have to remove the guide and continue cutting.

Now for the top I attach my template securely using hot melt glue gun.

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

Starting the cut hope I didn’t mess this up. I decided to used template to dummy proof me.

Seems pretty promising now the moment of truth fitting the plate.

It drops but with the template is still in place I can’t really say that the fit is perfect.

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

Close up inspection.

Next time I will assemble the fence, really haven’t decided how to lock the fence from the table. Because I don’t like the idea of making a slot on the table and putting t bolts to secure the fence. Oh well isip isip muna.

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

do not forget to primer the underside of the table...molds would love to hang out on the mdf surface during wet season..and removing them using dirt rag isnt for those with allergies....and the extra moisture given off by these molds is enough to rust the metal parts of the router not to mention the bit you left with the collet).

well done on the plate!

cheers!

NB: my favorite primer paint is the Stain Halt by Ace. Water based and yes...excellent!

Re: Deluxe Router Table build

@V

I thought sanding sealer was the good one to use. I didn't know another product like a stain existed that can do the protection.

Please provide more info on this when you have chance. Like why it is your choice.
