This is my steel frame garage, 1yr in the making and counting. sorry i procrastinate alot hehe.

first off million thanks to sir Ernie Serrano for helping me source the 0.8 thick steel frames last year.

i got the steel frames jan 2011, and started working about feb 2011. im amazed at how easy it is to work with steel frames. using only aviation snips, and a 12v ozito cordless drill(partida nicad pa yon)

step one
I had to hire people to do the concrete pouring . sad to say they did a crappy job, crooked edges and out of square corners.

step two
Made a primitive sketch of the plan, then calculated all the materials needed. Fasteners were anchor bolts, pan head screw and fibercement screw. Its amazing at how one can finish framing a 5x6 meter garage single handedly in less than a week using steel frames. The hardes part was drilling holes for anchor bolts on the concrete. The whole frame actually took more than a month to finish, but that was because I only worked on it after office hours. But if I was following a plan(and not something I just doodle), and was working on it the whole day, it might have taken me less than a week to finish.

Step three
The roof installation only took one after noon, again singlehandedly.

Step fourever
The wall sidings/panels took forever to install because I couldn’t decide how I want it to look.

Next in line is the garage door, another access door, and led strip lighting(masyado mababa ang headroom prone to accidents and lightbulbs). Hopefully I finish everything this year.

will try to post some latest pics.
thanks for viewing.

Hey bro twisted,

Your garage constructions gave me an idea 💡 on how fast I can possibly construct or put up a new metalworking/welding work shop here in my place of about 10 X 20 meters in size by just using those metal frame studs.

Thanks for sharing your build.

Hey again bro twisted,

I see in your last pic inside your garage that you have a welder too in the background, I believe that is an OZITO fluxcore welder, am I correct ? How does your welder perform, has it been modified to DC welder? 🙂

AHH are you into metalworking too or its just a hobby ? :cheerleader:

Thanks bro :thanks:

yes its an ozito gas/gasless mig. hobby lang, but came very handy, dami ko ng projects na nagawa. flux core lang siya for now, no budget for arco tank.

oks naman medyo madumi yung mga welds, but thats because its flux core. primary use will be plug welding for some body work on my kia.

i think these ozito welder are already dc, i bought this from janmike, he used to be a forumer here. may mga mods daw siya na ginawa although he didnt specify it or shown it to me. i think he modified the motor that drives the wire. he did however showed me via multimeter that dc volts were higher than whats written on the knob switch. hope to verify that soon with an unmodified unit.

re steel framing:
yup madali lang talaga steel framing, you build it one wall at a time. the hard part is the planning computing and costing. you cant use the 0.5 thick you see in the malls or hardware masyado manipis, you have to get 0.8 or up. problem is anything thicker than 0.5 you have to order from the supplier and they do have a minimum order. that's how i am forever in debt to sir ernie hehe. so far it withstood all typhoons 2011 had to offer.

Re: DIY steel frame garage

@ twisted,

Yes bro, with regards to your OZITO WELDER, I knew it and had a feeling when you said it has been modified to a DC welder, it came from Jan Mike, the guy converting OZITO gasless mig welder into a DC welder, I have read his articles sa Sulit regarding his modifications plus he does sells mig wires too diba ?

Well anyway bro kahit hobby lang ang pakay mo sa pag gamit ng welder, pre post mo naman mga WIPs mo, who knows you might inspire others too with your simple projects. :p 😉 🙂
