Hi,

Does anybody know how or what is the current way to glue Acrylic sheets aside from super glue. During our college design days, we were taught to glue acrylics using Chloroform which actually melts the acrylic to form a bond. But since then Chloroform has been phased out. Advice anyone?

Re: Glueing Acrylic Plastic Sheets

I read somewhere that PVC solvent/cement (used to join PVC pipes) will work. I haven't tried it though.

Re: Glueing Acrylic Plastic Sheets

The store in Binondo selling acrylic glass was also selling glue that said cyano--- something on the label, cyanoacrylate? that is 'super glue', no?

How about drilling? One of the links referenced
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-04/jg/index.php
warned about using conventional drill bits which twist and lift, and advised to instead use special bits which scrape. Is this true?

Re: Glueing Acrylic Plastic Sheets

Hey doc,

Just wondering how the chloroform affects the liver? Just by touching it?

Re: Glueing Acrylic Plastic Sheets

you would think that by inhaling..they will only affect the lungs..but when inhaled...these will go basically to the bloodstream and will circulate throughout the body.

but there are substances which are toxic to a particular organ just like a virus...meron silang tropism (attraction) sa isang particular organ..kaya merong hepatitis virus and no heart (cardio) virus.

Re: Glueing Acrylic Plastic Sheets

chloroform is not phased out but regulated since that is one of the ingredients in making an illegal drug... it is still the best agent to stick or join acrylic plastic... cyano or the more familiar name otso otso (888) is also a good allternative
