Gusto ko sanang maging hobby sya. Depende din po sa magkano ang magagastos. 😀 ano po bang mga unang tools na dapat bilhin? jigsaw? o circular saw? kreg jig? etc.

Maraming Salamat po.

Re: newbie to carpentry

What you really want is a table saw, but it is very expensive, and
is a space-hog. It's probably better to hold off buying one until you
are sure you want this as a longterm hobby and/or have sufficient
volume of projects to justify the expense.

I won't suggest a circular saw (others here might) because I do
not view it as an entry-level power tool. The danger it poses is too
great if you AREN'T properly-trained to use it:

Jigsaws aren't very useful for the long, straight cuts you will mostly
have to make in cabinet construction.

The power tools I'd feel safe recommending are:
a drill (with HSS bits, masonry bits and a 35mm Forstner bit),
maybe a palm sander, and also maybe a planer. Beyond that,
you might want to go with hand tools:

Hand saw
Speed square and/or Try square
Carpenter's square
Straight edge + level
Claw hammer
Bar clamps
Corner clamps
Small block plane
Phillips and Flathead screwdrivers
Allen wrenches
A good set of chisels, and a sharpening system
Chalk lines
Tape measure
Nail set
Miter box

Again, others will have different recommendations...

JM2P, YMMV, TANSTAAFL...

mga tools na pang baguhan na pwede po sa babae

IMHO there's no such tool or tools especially design for female ( or maybe I just know yet )
I stumble with one article, she is a female DIY who loves jigsaw/saber saw , I feel jigsaw/saber is safer than other portable power tools especially if you are beginner.

My suggestion's is do your research for hand tools and portable power tools, gauge them according to how comfortable you are using those tools.

Send you a PM about handtools and powertools that you can reference, Youtube is a good site to learn although, some are overkill so decide carefully and don't rush things.

Re: newbie to carpentry

Welcome to phm handygirl (do you have a name?)
First things first, what you need is to be able to cut your material to size, a circular saw would be a nice simple start for cutting straight but a tracksaw would even be better.
Then once you have your materials to size, you would need to join them. Kreg would be a nice tool to have though you would be needing a drill with it. A hammer and some nails would be a simple start or even a screwdriver and some screws wouldn't break the bank and give you a greater appreciation of the basics.
Handsaws might be a nice start off point, but it could get you frustrated and out of the craft before you discover it.

Re: newbie to carpentry

Hello po,
Might I suggest po to start with a modular/flatpack cabinet.using hand tools( Hammer, Screwdrivers maybe a rubber mallet). Next level up po is to get yourself a 10mm battery drill with screw bit and wood drills and a pair of 1000mm F-clamps. Handyman Home Centers should have modular cabinets in stock. Its a good starting point, it will introduce you to the various parts, joints, executions and hardwares. After that, you would need tools to hang your wall cabinets, so a 13mm hammer drill with masonry bits should be looked into.

Should you decide to make the parts yourself, then you can think of buying the circular saw, making the sawhorses and sourcing the painting tools

Sana nakatulong po.

In another site, our community often allows others to use each others tools. But the limitation is that they use it in our shop. Not everyone does this but if you can find someone close to your location who is willing to let you try those tools that you seek then it should give you a better chance to choose your tools wisely.
Hmr tends to price those cordless tools high, plus the batteries (which is the life of those tools) included make it a gamble.

Cordless tools is a very good choice if you plan to use it outdoor or offsite but they cost more than corded ones, plus the batterie's life is often good for 5 years (though mine is going 7 years already) and are somewhat costly.
I do suggest you go corded at this time especially for saws.... Drills and drill/drivers on the otherhand are very useful withou the cord.
Buying a powertool from a reputable brand is often a better choice especially if they offer support. A good tool will often last longer making it cheaper in the long run. They also let you enjoy your craft more instead of downtime or headaches.
We often say, you get what you pay for!
Cheers

Re: newbie to carpentry

hey there!

when I was beginning to discover the wonders of this hobby and that is carpentry (and later woodworking...) I started off with a handsaw, plastic miter box, a try square, a 500 watt reversible drill for driving screws and drilling holes, a jigsaw for not so straight cuts, a power planer, flat and Philips type screw drivers, a hammer, a chisel, a #4 handplane, measuring tools, bar level, and later to acquire a sheet sander...

I made small boxes, bookshelf, pc table and other small projects....from ideas when looking at Papemelroti stores...who was fond of making woodstuff projects out of salvaged pine pallet wood.

then chanced upon some woodworking magazines in 1996 at Booksale where I learned how to do this and that...of course, there are a lot of advertisements for tools, big and small in woodworking magazines but luckily I don't have money at that time and just a student trying to buy more books than handtools...LOL

in fact I started with tool addiction almost 20 years later....now with more tools but less projects..

I do not know if my path to the hobby for acquiringskills and tools is still applicable today in this Kreg world (got two Kreg Jigs, both K4 models..hohoho) and what you may call it...but I am happy I started with just a few tools and made more memorable projects...

and yes, money for tools isn't at the tip of my fingertips then..and its always nice to dream...and there were many nights that I dreamt of this and that tools...

ah yes....I am still dreaming...

tools like cars, come cheap and expensive, there are cheaper Japanese cars, more expensive German cars and some ultraexpensive Bugattis....

there are hand planes that can cost around 8K USD....

so beware....be wise by asking around here and there...you are in the right site for this hobby.

cheers!

The devil will find work for idle hands to do.-Morrissey

Tumataginting na mga eksperto na sumagot sa iyo kaya kung seryoso ka talaga yun na ang sundin mo.

Ako naman eh casual carpentry lang at very basic. Sino ba naman naging expert na di dumaan sa basic?

Here is my suggestion to determine your inclination:

Buy some illustration board, ruler, triangles, blade cutter and Elmer's glue.

Make a miniature of some shelves and see how that goes. After that, try some cabinet with doors using scotch tape as hinges.

This will test your skill without much expense.

Kapag nasiyahan ka sa munting model mo, bili ka ng isang pirasong 3/4" plyboard, wood saw, measuring tape at pako.

Ako, imbes na pintura o varnish, I use those sticker with wood finish you can buy from the hardware.

Dahil hindi mo pa sya ginamitan ng Stikwell wood glue, pwede mo kalasin pag nagbago isip mo.

Kapag nakatapos ka ng isang project sa ganitong paraan at buo pa ang loob mo, that is the time to spend for those tools and materials costing thousands.

Just...[COLOR="Red"]DRILL IT!

I think Tesda offers courses for Carpentry. I never had a formal training and what I know of carpentry I learned from my dad and asking local carpenters for guides and techniques.
