I used to do my projects straight from conception to actually building them, but lately, I have been using sketch-up and sometimes prototyping. I been building test pieces before I start a project. like earlier today I made this to practice and zero my jig.
it is a record box that is stackable and can be portable.
I did find flaws using regular plywood, all made of 1/2" plywood the actual items should be made of tuffply for durability and aesthetics...
also, I found it easy to make the mistake of cutting the wrong side and that I would probably run out of long clamps during glue-ups.
prototyping has given me a chance to fix the flaws before I start on them, only thing left after building is hopefully someone buys them 😀

I also use and like Sketchup. Helps visualize the project in any angle, color and texture. Sipag talaga timb! 1:1 Prototype. That would be impressive with your clients. I can only do a proto of the joinery just to test its strength.
I agree on your choice to use quality plywood. Ordinary ones have inconsistent glue spread. Tears out with the router or simply just peels away. Good ones cost more but you can easily justify it to a customer (hindi barat) who will pay for quality.
