with the new SCMS I tried to make an octagonal box cutting miters at 22.5 degrees. here it is glued and clamped with packing tape.

added and glued the base in place and cut roughly with the bs.

with a round-over bit raised slightly higher than flush I cleaned the sides and gave the bottom a nice profile of the sides.
Now here is when the tip comes in. with scrap plywood cut to the same dimension, a couple of rubber for better holding and a clamp.

clamped everything level to the table...

Re: Router/ router table tips and tricks

turning the whole thing upside down you will see the top portion now slightly raised, this jig is also known as a SKI bec the plywood served as a carrier for the material. adjust the depth of cut to desired cut (using a 3/4 straight bit).

then cut away...

I left a small portion uncut, turn it back down and cut and viola! a flat top portion of the box... oh and the plywood scraps will get cut (they are sacrificial) and will also serve as a tear out deterrent...

checking on the bs table, it is dead flat...
