from the form included, it says that the ratio for the flakes to the denatured alcohol is 1:4... so I decided to start making some test. bought Puree denatured alcohol to try...

Re: Shellac...

Now this will be interesting.

Subscribed.

Can one not use a paint mixer using a drill? Probably put a hole w/ a rubber seal on the bottle lid for the shaft to go out.

Maybe even do a custom mixing station on the drill press. .... am I making sense here?

or a Shaker is really needed.

Re: Shellac...

you see, I want to try it out na kasi...
on tanguille two light coats, the feel is very much an improvement...

on goncalo aves, makes the wood stand-out...

and on pine, i pops the grain....

and after several light coats...

it is starting to be a french polish, unfortunately the material is rough and wasn't properly prepped... so far, I love it and is veeerrrry easy to apply... well its a small piece still, have to wait for a bigger piece.

Re: Shellac...

some minutes today to continue my trials with shellac, I figured I needed a wad...

then, sand the finish with 180 grit, it should have been 220 or better but that was the only grit I have at hand...

Re: Shellac...

5 minutes and two coats later...

then two coats more...

I think that is a very good result, I still would like to try it on a big piece which I'm sure will be a bit more difficult. so far, its so easy... sobra! 😉

Re: Shellac...

well Shellac is one of the most versatile finish one can use, favored by by most american woodworkers. it can be used as a sealer, a varnish or a topcoat. It works well with almost all finishes as well like lacquer, oil or water based finish...
