How to Replace a Scooter's Rear Brake Shoe

Safety first!

Fixed Max's rear brakes. Removing my scooter's rear wheel is easier said than done but with some guerilla tactics - I was able to do so - Read about it at http://yesyoucanarchie.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-replace-scooters-rear-brake-shoe.html

Re: DIY projects!

hey archie, i am a fan here...
waiting for your DIY oil change...
what's the best oil filter wrench na mai-recommend mo ?
planning to change my cars oil filter.
many recommends that if your using synthetic oils, is you change your filters on the mid intervals of your oil change...
say, if you change oils every 10k, then you change your oil filter every 5k...

nga pala, baka mabasa na rin ito ni bro jayL, i know he to is the best man for the job... baka may ma-recommend ka na rin...
best type of oil filter wrench and where to find...

thanks and more DIY projects !!!

hi sir jonathan - thanks for your kind words - coming from a senior handyman like you - I really appreciate it :thanks:

As far as synthetic oils are concerned - I don't use them po eh 🙂 Medyo too expensive for my budget hehe pero sabi nila mas matagal daw yung interval ng change oil. What I use is yung castrol na asa white na lalagyan - pag may budget - change every 6 months - pag wala - at least once a year (sabay sa rehistro hehe) - so far so good naman ang performance nung makina.. 🙂 antay din tayo ng comments from those who are using synthetics - worth it kaya talaga? 🙂

Hopefully, I get the time (and money) to do an oil change soon hehe.. thanks!

Re: DIY projects!

Bro Archie ,

Good job in doing your DIY oil change , I also have done my own oil change in my previous ride , a 97 galant hehehee

But I noticed that you used compressed air in pushing out the remaining oil? As what I have learned before , and maybe I can share to you also as a fellow DIYer is that ;

Do NOT do this practice , if you have time to spare ,you can drain the oil completely from the engine by letting it drip maybe overnight , ako kasi I remove the oil plug on saturday night then Sunday morning then almost the oil is drained na.

Why ? You might ask, kasi po compressed air po will try tforce out the oil but mapupuwersa rin yung oil na sumiksik sa mga oil seal thus causing busted oil seal then magkakaroon na po ng tagas or oil leakage .

This was some precautions po na Sinabi sa kin ng other mech and friends e

HTH bro ,

Btw nice blog

Keep it up bro , DIY all the way hehehe

Re: DIY projects!

hi sir adzz.. thanks for the reminder.. good car you have there - 97 na galant - yan ba yung 4963 makina? astig! 🙂

hindi naman namin nilakasan yung hangin sa compressor.. naisip ko din sir - since yung hinahanginan is yung valves area - di naman siguro masyado malakas yung pressure enough to break the seals? what do you think? pero we really can't be too sure/too safe hehe 🙂

(baka paranoid lng din ako hehe) or maybe better if we drain it sa umaga tpos plug sa hapon.. hehe what do you think?

Since you're also into DIY - maybe you could post your projects here din (if you have the time). we would love to see it.. Thanks for reading my blog! Appreciate it!

Re: DIY projects!

Sir archie hope you dont mind me na mag butt in regarding sa oil change.

From friends sa car club forums i joined, they also discouraged using compressor. Why, kasi it's because na baka hindi filtered or somewhat h2o might go inside the engine (kaya pala yung sa mga gas stations me filter akong nakikita na basa sa hanginanan nila). what they do is to drain it overnight (naka tilt pa nga yung pagkajack! Me banlaw method pa yun using monograde oil) para simot ang langis, which in my opinion, di naman talaga 100% na ubos ng lumang oil. Kung ganun gusto natin, eh di baklasin natin engine saka linisin di ba?

Anyway, with regards to h20 topic, you maybe right if overnight draining, pano nga naman yung moisture since nakabukas makina, baka same din when using compressor.

Well, just a thought, di naman seals yung alam kong (based sa nalaman ko) ang concerned na affected) kaya ayw pagamit ng compressor, it the water kung hindi filtered na maigi.

Sorry, ako mismo nagcomment but im also confused right now haha!

But if we want to be specific, siguro actual tests with measurements lang talaga makaksagot regarding sa topic na yan. Not to mention yung lugar where the test will beconducted kasi malaking factor din yun.

In my opinion, basta gawin lang natin religously yng maintenance sa oto natin and we will be safe.

Re: DIY projects!

@sir sam - I appreciate your comment - welcome lahat ng comments dito hehe share share tayo lahat ng nalalaman natin kasi pareparehas tayo natututo.. 😀

I totally agree with the h20 issue pag sa compressors that's why the air/water separator is a must.. kahit sa painting - and dapat drain ang compressor regularly kasi nag aaccumulate din water sa loob ng tanke 🙂

Honoring our dead relatives. Decided to paint their graves myself (with my mom) instead of having someone else do it 🙂

The results were not bad for half a day's work 🙂 Check out how it turned out at http://yesyoucanarchie.blogspot.com/2012/11/all-souls-day-project-mausoleum-makeover.html
