Re: Hood insulation (DIY)

the paint on top of the hood gets "oxidized" thru time due to direct sunlight exposure.

it would be best na nabubungan lang ito at most time.

a twice a year paint detailing would also do you good (but my car manages sa once a year paint detailing)....try big berts in j. vargas or g. araneta area.

Re: Hood insulation (DIY)

Anyway can I also use the one used as roof heat insulator for building construction purpose. Since this can also reduced the heat transfer from your engine compartment. in such a way using silicone sealant without using any clip .

I think you should use fiberglass insulation, rather than the plastic foam insulation. You need insulation that will not burn.

Re: Hood insulation (DIY)

the heat from underneath the hood will not make the paint bad...it is really mostly from the sunlight.

the best insulator and noise suppressor that i can think of would be having it sprayed with rubberized/plastized paint (yung spray-on bed liner).

Re: Hood insulation (DIY)

rubberized paint + engine heat could be fatal.

Try to bring it to a detailing shop if they can remove the oxidation through buffing.

Anyway I've seen an OEM hood insulator at AUTOSPORT. It looks like fabric.

just include this side of the hood every car wash. i personally wash my car so i include this in the procedure.

just use a clean damp cloth (no cleaning solution, just water). follow it up immediately with a dry cloth. of course MF is the best choice for this task.

i do this once a week because sunday is my car wash day 🙂

How much does OEM hood insulator cost?
Basically, I also plan installing some hood insulator for my car not for reducing heat transfer on the hood but for reducing engine noise coming from the hood.

This would actually depend on the brand and model of your car.

In the case of as big body corolla, OEM hood isulator is about 7K. That was around 2 years ago. It is so expensive so I just get mine at my suking surplus shop. You just have to wait and be patient. Madalang kasi ang dating ng ganyang item. Pag may dumating, pipili ka pa ng maayos-ayos. Bihira rin yun. 🙂
