I would like to ask if any one have idea how to remove paint on car original paint?

The situation is i have buy a former taxi unit and it had painted company name on the doors exterior you can feel the thickenes when you touch it.. I think they used stencil sticker then spray paint the leterings. Hope any one can help me remove with out repainting it. Repaint is may last resort due to the shade might not be the same.. Its a 2010 unit and was used as taxi for 1yr...

Re: How to remove paint over paint on cars

you just want to remove the name of the taxi, is that your intention?
if it is, there is no sure fire way of doing it, unless the name is painted on using enamel (you might get what you want), but if lacquer or acrylic is used, the paint would have fused with the original and the only way to remove the name would be to remove the body paint as well. else you can try sanding off the name but be ready for a complete door repaint...

Re: How to remove paint over paint on cars

i have tried browsing the net i saw many say using paint thinner? i think they used can spray paint. most likely pylox or o ther spay paint available in the hardware store.

By the way i think there is no enamel on canned spay paint?..

also i saw some chipping off.. is that a good sign for easy removal?

can you just put another sticker on it? i think it is the best cost cutting solution for the job...

i haven't tried this before, but it might work, let's wait for others input.

1. wet sand the top coating very fine, put your own sticker, then clear coat application.
or
2. remove the sticker, wet sand the top coating very fine, then put your own sticker, then clear coat application.

can you post the pictures of your car?

Yes there is enamel type in spray paints.

As for your problem, are you sure it's paint and not sticker?

If it's paint then I'm sure it's brush applied rather than sprayed bec it's the usual process. Now either way,(sticker or paint) I'm sure once you eventually remove it there will be stain marks and discoloration which eventually will dictate you to re paint it altogether. Don't worry about painting it with different color since most paint store can really match that color even if it takes a few attempts. Only colors that can't be duplicated in dead match fashion is the pearl paints kasi overtime the original color exhibits discoloration.

Another way to do it is have it foiled but again it is a little costly too.
