I haven't used the car for about three weeks and lately did I saw that one tire was flat and was probably losing air all along. The tire was already in deformed shape due to lack of air when I saw it so I removed it and found a large screw embedded on the tire.

You could see a mark the tire was really flat on the floor...

As I'm saving up these days, this made me feel bad...

I could see some steel torn from the screw's large puncture. Could this still be vulcanized?

Re: Tire Flats

^That particular tire seems to be cracking already- a bit of a financial pain but - time to chuck it out in my humble opinion. Tires have a life of around 6 years, less for not so good ones or depending on rubber formulation. On one tire that didn't have cracks outside, when i replaced it, it had minute cracks on the inside where it wasn't exposed to the elements (a cheap lowly champiro.)

Fwiw, i use long lasting michelin xm1s =).

=====

Been meaning to ask you, since you're more familiar with cameras than I: There's an lx3 in the household that's been dropped- lens housing got smacked on the floor - and now wouldn't open completely. Do you know much does that take to repair/replace? Looked it up and the panasonic service center appears to be somewhere in shaw, but then panasonic philippines makes rice cookers, washing machines to cameras- i don't know if that's the place to take it to...

Re: Tire Flats

Wow, XM1s are about 4K from the dealership 🙁 That's what's dreading me as well since the production code was that of 2004 even if it was bought just last 2008 (the previous owner had no idea I think), so I'm quite torn right now.

About the LX3, as far as I know, these are grey imports so there isn't really any local support from our local Panasonic. You may try http://www.love-electronics.com (pardon the business name) as they are the only shop I know who knows how to fix digicams. If that fails, there is a certain Mang Ady that is known by the local photography community that works on lenses that could probably help you as well.

Re: Tire Flats

Jarod, I beleive the thread seems shallow enough not to grip the road properly, if you drive like I do :drive1:, then maybe its time to replace them. But if you don't :wheelchair: then it should give you enough time to save for a new one. The cracks aren't as bad as it looks (moji is the expert on cracks btw:worthy: )...

about the LX3 Owyn, did I tell you I have a brandnew one for sale? :fish:

Re: Tire Flats

timber and bmac: Thanks guys but I'm really torn as of now. I wanted to use the spare tire but I found out that it was made last 1998 pa so I guess, that rules out na.

pyth: in the "bukol/oblong" tire experience you mentioned, what vulcanize method did they use on your tire? Was is the:
- german patch : wherein they put a patch inside the tire
- repair kit: wherein the shove a gummy tar-filled thing into the hole
- heat method: wherein the heat press the tire to close the hole

Hi there jarod,

I know how it feels to be in a situation like yours when unexpectedly seeing your tire flat and with a hole on it, I've been in that situation several times but manage to solve the problem.

I think your tire can still be vulcanized if done properly or correctly but if still in doubt what you can do is to take your tire to a reputable vulcanizing shop and inquire about the condition of your tire. If its fine with you, you can have it vulcanized and see for yourself if its still worth using or needs a replacement. I know buying a new tire will be an unexpected expense on your part but try to see first if you can extend the life of your tire by having it fixed properly.

HE HE HE HE, well you have now an added list to save up some more in case you decide to buy a new tire. Hindi pa ma ooblong yan tire mo, a few weeks pa land na flat yan, if more that a year or so na napabayaang flat, e talagang sira na ang tire mo.

Anyway CHEERS and GOOD LUCK on your tire.

Re: Tire Flats

sir jarod,

don't forget to check the date of manufacturing of the tires you'll be buying...yung ginawa ko nung nagpalit ako eh nagpadulas pako ng P100 sa technician para lang makapamili ako ng tire sa loob ng warehouse nila specifically on the manufacturing date.....depends on the shop though.
