Hi,

I have a Canon Camera which had had very bad luck. It was purchased new sometime early last year. After having it for a few days it met an accident wherein it got wet with sea water. I was so pis*#d 🙁 off that I just tossed it into the cabinet and forgot all about it till tonight.

Does anybody know of a person or shop who could take a look at it and probably repair it at a reasonable cost.

The cam is a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. EF-S 18-55.

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Canon DigiCam

Bro sorry to say but unless you rinsed it immediately with freshwater it is probably a goner already. The salt will have eaten away at the circuitry already. There would be no harm in trying to have it fixed though. I suggest you bring it a camera repair shop along Hidalgo (not really sure, Timber would know I guess) in Quiapo.

The best thing to do when saltwater gets into your electronics is to turn it off, remove the battery if there is one, immediately flush it with freshwater, then to dry it with a blow dryer. It also helps if the drying is done in an airconditioned room so the humidity is low.

Also, though I'm not really sure if the same applies to gadgetry, it does to outboard boat motors that get dunked, is if you can't flush it with freshwater immediately, then leave it soaking in saltwater. The idea is to keep oxygen away until the saltwater can be removed.

This is one reason why we just got the waterproof Cannon 🙂

Good luck bro.

Re: Canon DigiCam

Bro,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not very positive too that it can still be repaired at a reasonable cost and that it's better and sure get a new one. Lesson learned here is that its better to get a water proof one. 🙂

Thanks again.

Re: Canon DigiCam

Bring it to Canon Service Center, either at Makati or at Shaw
Sayang naman. There maybe hope for it.

Re: Canon DigiCam

JayL,

Hidalgo St at the back of Quiapo Church has some shops dedicated to DSLR repairs. If the damage is not too extensive they might even offer you a trade-in even if they can't bring the cam back to life.

Re: Canon DigiCam

If you can trade it in, do so. You might be able to use it again if you have it repaired but problems will surely creep in as corrosion can't be dealt with completely (unless you replace each and every bit of metal inside it). Rebel Xti so that would be the Canon 400D locally. The newest is the 600D with the flip lcd like that of 60D. Good luck Sir!
