My Pentax Optio 140 digicam was dropped and got damaged. I was quoted 1k to fix it but am thinking to just get a new one.

What would be a good P&S digicam for a budget of around 10K. Something that would not be too complicated to use in places like an oily auto shop, dirty metal shop and sometimes a dusty wood shop. Will be used primarily for taking pics of Wips.

Is Sony Cybershot good?

Thanks a lot. 🙂

Re: Point and Shoot DigiCam

@ JayL

So sorry about your digicam, Yes the SONY Cyber-shot is a very good kind of digicam, easy to use and manipulate BUT ..... after years of use I noticed that its lense developed a defect. This is the camera that I used to take pics for posting sa threads, but then lately like what I said it developed a lense defect, the lense cannot take anymore bright lights or I'm already having difficulty in taking shots due to the fact that the result of the pics when transferred or uploaded to the PC would appear as though there's a very thin mist or clouding in the images that is why before posting I would ask my son to do some photo retouching and photo enhancement on the pics to be posted. 🙁

Para ba syang may catarata na, we would laugh at this camera maybe because its kinda old already, maybe I'll just have it cleaned or repaired and see what wrong with it.

Now because of this developement, I recently purchased just last April or May yata a new one, its within your stated budget, its the new GE X500 Digital Camera, 16 megapixel and 15 times optical zoom. It is powered by 4pcs of AA size Alkaline rechargeable batteries. Better have another set of rechargeable batteries on hand for back up power source. Got it for 9K during that time coz it was its first week in the market, now I think its 9,800 plus, saw one at SM and Robinsons, also at Anson's Dept. stores. :p

I do say its a very nice and reliable digicam.

I hope you find the camera that will suit you best, good luck on your hunt. 🙂 😉

Re: Point and Shoot DigiCam

Given what you will use it for, you may want to consider some of the weatherproof cameras by Pentax and Olympus. Not sure if they're available locally, though.

Re: Point and Shoot DigiCam

@ Rosy

Will check it out bro. Price looks within my budget.

@ Balarila

Given my accident prone history with digicams my son suggested this one too. Don't know if it's available locally.

Would like to hear more from other members too.

Thanks for the feedback. Frankly speaking if I was buying an angle grinder this issue of mine would have been resolved already. I know next to nothing about cams as I don't update my readings on this subject. All my small WIPs done already and no pictures 🙁

How about this?

@Ding
This was my first choice when my Sony Tx5 blacked out. I ended up w/ a Lumix GF1. Mid-entry cameras have a shorter engine (sensor) life. The GF1 has around at least 20,000 shots before they go Kaput! Dami nang WIP's no'n d ba?

@JayL
I used to love Sony cameras until i was able to try Lumix, Canon and Olympus. The Lumix won because of it's simplicity of operation and it's minimal use of lighting. I can take night shots in places or situations w/o a flash than most cameras. They have fantastic lenses too. Get more info at this site... http://www.dpreview.com/

Re: Point and Shoot DigiCam

@jay,

well what can i say...the only point and shoot cam I want three years ago and till today is still the panasonic lumix lx3 (me lx5 na latest with 5K price difference)..it has the superb Leica lens unmatched by other p&s in its category...nowadays costing 15K...

but if for wips only and below 10K budget, i saw a Vivitar 6 mp which operates on two AA batt and a free2 GB sd card...price? just 1.5K at HMR..new!

Re: Point and Shoot DigiCam

@Doc: What model of Vivitar could that be?

@Ninong Jay: My wife has one and it sometimes irks me as you can get great no-brainer pics with low-light capability to boot. My old D40 doesn't get much action now.

But I guess as Dov said, it may not satisfy your requirements. WIPs may included dust, oil, sparks, water and the like. Get a premium priced tough one or get a very simple no-cry version.
