My new Record 5" vise is acting funny. Sometimes it will not close unlike the first one I purchased which runs like clockwork. 🙁

It's a quick release model. The moment you close the jaws to the stock and turn the handle sometimes it won't bite.

N.B.
You release it by turning handle one rev counter clockwise and pull the jaws.

I'll call Edward tomorrow and see what he says. I think it's the last piece. 🙁

if you look at the shaft, almost half of it has no thread. could it be that during the tightening you end with the flat (no teeth part) of the shaft?

I can hear some noise in the back side too. My idea is that the half circular threaded locks which should close together during clockwise handle turning are not mating well. This is where the screw screws in.

When turn counterclockwise these separate and dis engages the screw which allows to pull out the jaws.

This QR model is a different animal. Very convenient to use. No levers nothing. Just the handle itself. Design is spring loaded.

No. I added some lube. Clicking noise went down a bit. Didn't want to open it since under warranty pa. I tested it but have not used it yet.

More mechanism more failure points of course.

If it's the last piece I'll probably keep it and gamble. It's that good.

Wow it's 3/4 the price of the DP.

Panda has a NOS Record DP. So smooth but cost both arms and a leg.

I'll gladly pay more local provided it can be tested on the Milton if I was in the market for one. For the price paid for the Milton I expected the low performance. That's why I'm not buying hole saws too.
