I got myself a gallon of fresh sealed Titebond II glue at HMR for 490p.

Hurry while supply lasts..saw two bottles of 1 liter but its expensively priced at 199p a piece.

There are also spray adhesives made by 3M but it still expensive at 199 pesos a can.

I regret not having visited the store earlier, somebody got himself a central machinery brand new 2HP bandsaw for 16K operating at 110/230V..well built and there is a website for that model alone (its made in china but much like the grizzlies for US market)

Other items i found today aside from the items above inside HMR are all junk in the eyes of a woodworker.

Re: Titebond II

Doc V, does it have an expiry date or manufacturing date? price for a gallon seems decent to me, but I have always found HMR prices to be the same as brand new and even higher, even though the tools they sell are secondhand.

titebond III is water proof, it isn't a new model glue. Gorilla glue is nice but what do you need it for? I have titebond II and use elmers 99% of the time, so far, no glue failure and I do buy the Elmer's glue by the gallon too...

Re: Titebond II

i know that yellow glues (PVA) have a "best used by" 2 years from date of manufacture..and thats the reason i checked the manufacture date..its halfway its life..but titebond users claim the glue is still strong than wood itself even after fours years by storing it in a cool place away from sunlight.

when titebond III came out, at first i thought they arent going to manufacture anymore titebond II's! Anyhow, the glue looks good, unadulterated, without flocculation or clumping of that sort...i may have to test it to find out myself...but thankfully, we have the carpenters' glue by elmers..many times proven that it is stronger than wood itself minus the advertisements.

i have been a customer of HMR since 1997 and have purchased all sort of things there. yes you are right Timb that HMR most of the time priced their finds stupidly same or way above the market price, like i remember in 1998, a small vacutainer test tube is being sold 75p a piece when the whole pack of 100 tubes is sold locally at about 500 pesos..

sometimes, (and this is my time), some items are stupidly priced so low...like the combo dewalt blade (60 tooth/30 tooth) i am using now with the miter saw and table saw at only 390 pesos early in january! i also purchased sometime in july progressor blades by bosch being sold only for 60p per pack! (when a pack has 5 blades)..i bought three packs! and all that is left behind.

kaya i never fail to visit HMR at least once a week for finds like these..sometimes lucky...sometimes not...but sort of completing my week for having my "attendance" checked..and if i miss a week, it feels like i missed some bunch of good stuff...it is addicting though.

like the other day...that bandsaw is priced just ok with me..its new and its really new! i watched the guy who purchased the tool assembling the kits...of course the guys at HMR doesnt even know how a bandsaw works! haha..so far...the store is filled with junkie ryobi tools of all sorts.

@jay,

thats the one! with green enameled body..i checked the induction motor (three speed) and yes its rated to work at both 110/230V...the whole thing is pristine....and working! naunahan ako! huhu.

Re: Titebond II

excerpts from franklin international, makers of titebond glues:

What does the term shelf life mean in regard to Titebond Wood Glues?Shelf life is a conservative estimate of the minimum time period that we would expect a given product to remain usable, when stored as directed. This concept might also be called "useable service life" or "storage life", and it necessarily refers to both the physical handling properties and the ability of the product to perform properly. When used in reference to wood glues, reaching the stated shelf life does not mean that a product will "expire" or become unusable. Instead, we view the stated shelf life of most of our glues merely as a guideline to avoid potential aging concerns. In reality, as long as products like Titebond Original, Titebond II and Titebond III remain fluid, without drastic change in appearance, they will continue to perform as intended.

What is the shelf life of Titebond Wood Glues? Our literature states the shelf life of all of our glues as one year. Titebond Liquid Hide Glue includes an expiration date on the bottle, because it can progressively lose its ability to dry hard, and this change is not visually obvious. Titebond Polyurethane Glue has a one year shelf life in an unopened container, but is useable as long as the glue remains fluid. Polyurethanes, however, are designed to react when exposed to moisture and can sometimes begin to cure after the bottle has been opened, and solidify.

Most of our yellow and white glues, including Titebond Original and Titebond II, remain usable beyond two years. Should Titebond Original become thick and stringy, or Titebond II turns into an orange colored gel, these changes signify that the glue is no longer usable. The minimum shelf life of Titebond III is stated as one year, when stored appropriately at room temperature. Titebond III is expected to last beyond its stated shelf life. If thickened, shake vigorously by firmly tapping bottle on a hard surface until product is restored to original form.

Re: Titebond II

more excerpts from the titebond website:

How do I read the lot numbers?
The letter "A" is always used at the beginning of a Franklin International lot number. The second digit corresponds to the last number of the year. Digits 3 & 4 correspond to the months of the year. The 5th and 6th digits correspond to the day of the month the product was made. Lastly, digits 7 through 10 are batch numbers. Therefore, a Titebond product with the lot number of A906010045 was manufactured on June 1, 2009.

the glue i purchased

this means that it was manufactured in 2009 June 05
so...my glue is still good to go!

cheers!

Re: Titebond II

sorry, wrong ID,suppose to be doc V pala...cenxa na antok na,galing pa kasi sa byahe, hehehe.kumusta ka na sir violane?

thanks for your interest in my health bro.

sometime mid september, i will be under the knife.

they need to remove a huge benign tumor of the blood vessels called hemangiomas from my liver (its congenital and the fumes or dusts that i have inhaled from woodworking have nothing to do on its development if that is your worry hehe)

its 17 cms in width! putting pressure on my stomach causing my acid reflux..i think half of my liver will be removed...sounds exciting..hehe..good thing is..the good Lord made the liver a wonderful organ since it can regenerate much like the tail of a lizard when severed not unlike the kidneys, lungs, brain or the heart.

my doctor, a liver transplant surgeon is now planning how to bandsaw me and sew me thereafter..hehe..thats why i purchased a gallon of glue in time her stapler wont work! heehee

i need not worry coz He is always beside me..and He made 2 miracles already very recently..so why should i be afraid of the operation?;)

besides, i know that my comrads at PHM will all pray for me di ba?

so while i still can,let me thank you all for the spiritual support especially to sonny and jay and you jonathan.

oh i miss my tools!

Re: Titebond II

why not offer a church a small woodwork token from your shop Violaine? it would be something simple that you can make from your shop, light powertool duty and plenty handtool work should keep your mind off your pain. it doesn't even have a deadline (wait change that to "schedule") hahahaha, just kidding, I'm glad you have a good outlook and trust in our maker. keep smiling, laughter is the best medicine.

Re: Titebond II

though reassured by my doctor that these hemangiomas may not spontaneously rupture i still have these worries especially when i bend at midsection and feel that "fullness" right underneath the ribcage...

yes that is a good idea bro..id use more of the power tools and less of the handtools so less stress is put on my belly.

indeed a good idea....hmmm any suggestion of what i am going to make?

definitely not the altar table i guess!

Re: Titebond II

how about a book stand where the priest puts the bible to read from during the mass? or maybe ask your local parish what they need that you can do, tell them your capacity so they won't be asking for much.
