Re: Anti Mosquito Plant??

Neem trees grow more than 10 meters in height and also in width. Can it live long in a pot?

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: Anti Mosquito Plant??

Can the neem tree be propagated by cuttings? Well in theory almost any shrub / tree can be propagated by cuttings if one can provide an Oxygen rich substrate with a good amount of micro nutrients.

But if it can be cut and stuck, that would be soooooooo much better for you Rosy hehehe 🙂 para hindi naman maubos garden mo.

Another anti mosy plant is Lemon grass, a.k.a. Pandan!!!!!! para hindi naman maubos puno ni Rosy... but sorry i dont have pandan (or thats what i would like you guys to think ehehhe)

I think Lemon grass is locally called Tanglad, not Pandan.

H I BIGFOOT2

Yes this wonder tree is also a biggy.

Yea I guess it can live long in a pot but that will depend on the size of pot or container you are going to use,and with proper feeding of nutrients and fertilizers. This tree is a fast grower and eventually in the long
run if potted will have to be transferred in to the ground, roots spreads fast and will just brake the base of the pot.

Anyway in addition to this tree just for information, the lumber derived from this tree is very promising, whether for construction or furniture making. The wood can resist wood borers and termite attacks if properly stored.

And also a year or so, I had one tree uprooted by strong winds after a typhoon passed the Rizal area,
though the tree was still young with trunk size of about 10" in diameter, for curiosity sake, I milled the
trunk of about 5" o r6' in lenght with my chainsaw simply to find out how its inside would look, and
lo and behold the lumber appered reddish and with nice looking wood grains [ haspe]. BEAUTIFULL

And said to myself this wood will also be great for furniture making if only the tree was mature enough
and has a larger trunk diameter.

I personally have not tried propagating the tree by cuttings since the tree produces multiple
round seeds and will just drop on the ground and simple gather them for planting or just wait
for the seeds that dropped to sprout anew, let it grow for about 10" or a foot and simply collect them for easy planting, thats it. No problemo hindi ako mauubusan sa garden ko, sobra soba pa nga.

Bee I think you are mistaken here with regards to lemon grass and the pandan.
LEmon grass is lemon grass, in tagalog its called TANGLAD and pandan is pandan.
Lemon grass or tanglad in clumps have long spinny leaves similar to ordinary grass or talahib while the pandan in clumps too has a larger and elongated leaves. Both leaves are also used in cooking, it exudes a very pleasant aroma when mix with chicken or rice.

I used to have a clump of the lemon grass but due to the hot climate it died. What I have now are pandans na ginagamit ni misis sa pagluluto.

Re: Anti Mosquito Plant??

That's too bad... Our Lemon grass also withered, guess you're right, it can't handle the heat.

ByTheWay... Scents from the Neem tree...is it something like the citronella grass??

Tia 🙂

Re: Anti Mosquito Plant??

I'll be posting some texts and pics in support of my last post above (#38), starting from paragraph 3 then onwards. I'd like to show how the wood from the NEEM tree will appear if properly prepared.

Here's a pic of a NEEM tree sapling or seedling for those who haven't seen one, haven't yet transferred it into a seedling bag. 😉

I'm showing here a piece of wood scrap of the NEEM tree that I milled before, still with the marks of the chainsaw.

I've started sanding the surface with a belt sander using sanding belt #P40

Other set of pics with regards to sanding the scrap wood will follow on the next post.

Re: Anti Mosquito Plant??

Here are the second set of pics of the scrap wood of the NEEM tree being sanded.

THE SANDING PROCESS

On this pic I used a finishing sander to achieve a smoother surface.

Re: Anti Mosquito Plant??

This will be the last set of pics regarding the piece of a scrap wood from the NEEM tree.

HERE ARE THE RESULTS

On this pic I'm showing the sanded smooth surface of the wood.

And on this pic I have applied ZAR stains directly on the wood surface. I divided the surface into two sections and stained it with two different stain color/color stain simply to find out the possible effects in using different colors of wood stain.

This is a close up of the stained wood surface. The upper portion I used a maple color, and the lower portion, I stained it with cherry color. Maybe if I applied additional stains the surface will be more darker.

Re: Anti Mosquito Plant??

I'm posting here a "conscience reply" to my postings yesterday.

When I woke up this morning at about 6:30, my mind was still on the last three postings I made yesterday,
yes I was happy of its results since its my first posting with pics but of course with the assistance and guidance of my son, and lucky me he was on leave yesterday from his work as a supervisor head of their landscape architect department.

Suddenly OMG I think I made a mistake in posting those pics, they look more like they are for the wood working forum. Here if I remember correctly the topic here is about the ANTI MOSQUITO plant and I think
I should have focused more on the leaves because in the previous discussions the leaves are the ones
being used to ward off these pests.

I guess I was just carried away of this wonder tree showing off another possible usefull application of this plant or tree. Didn't mean to confuse this postings with the other forum and topics that goes under it,
and maybe just got so excited because like what I said its my first postings with pics and belie:mad:ve me it was
not that easy for a first timer.
