Re: anyone here into orchid raising?

Member Tatoski has an orchid farm. If you read his article, he raises orchids in gravel, rather than coconut shells, charcoal or driftwood.

I'm sure he can give some more advice.

Re: anyone here into orchid raising?

i'm into orchids din (from my mother din).
cattleya, dendrobium at dancing lady, i'm not sure pa sa names nila? basta sila yung marami mamulaklak.

You may visit any site that is talking about growing orchids in a tropical country. This includes sites from singapore, thailand, indonesia etc. But if you have questions just shoot. I'll try to answer them.

Asking coconut husks from the mambubuko is not quite ideal. the husks are immature and has sap (dagta). Better to use the husks of old nuts (pang gata).

Questions beginners shlould ask are:
1. LIght requirements
2. Potting requirements
3. Watering requirements
4. Fertilizing requirements
5. Cultivars to grow.

Just shoot and I try to answer them.

Re: anyone here into orchid raising?

3. Watering requirements - pag summer once a day.

4. Ferltilizer. Once a week na full strength or twice a week na half strength.

5. Cultivars to grow.

Ito ay pwede rin paramihin using tissue culture or pod or seed culture (mahirap itong gawin).

Magtanong ulit. Sasagot ako.

salamat

Re: anyone here into orchid raising?

Fertilize ng two times a week at half stength. During summer water everyday. Pag tag-ulan wag na magdilig.

Re: anyone here into orchid raising?

I really do not know the current prices. Way back in 1995, award winning waling waling costs about 4k per plant. Check the farm outlets at Cubao and Manila Seedling Bank.

Re: anyone here into orchid raising?

Junn2006, halos pareho lang pero from my experience, mas mura sa Manila Seedling ng kaunti. Masarap mag-punta dun pag nag-sale sila ng plants.

hello po, i'm newbie in orchid and would like to know more specially potting media... ano po ba better medium? coco husk, orchid pot mix, or gravel? from my googling kailangan mabilis daw madry to avoid root rot. i find coco husk na matagal maghold ng water. gravel looks like to dry faster but what's the experience on gravel overall? thanks po.
