anyone here at PHM, can share their expertise on this particular plant, the biggest and tallest grass we have...
wood nowadays are very expensive, and logging are bieng banned...
i think bamboo is another good alternative to wood.
if i may recall somebody mention bamboo at some thread...
i'm not saying this, because i'm going to switch to bamboo projects, my love with working on woods will never cease...
i'm saying this because there are lots of bamboo at my father's farm, i guess an added knowledge about bamboo would be a better option.
these type of bamboo are very difficult to handle or to cut because this species are the "thorned" once..
they say that these specie of bamboo are the most strongest, most durable of the bamboo species
i guess it's high time some of you guys share their knowledge about this plant.
and here are some of the pics i have taken from the site...
Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.
Looks you've got an ample supply of bamboo for any design you might think of!
Most filipino furniture designers have made it big thru exports of their bamboo and rattan furniture like Budji Layug and other designers from Cebu. With your tons of raw material maybe you can do the same:cool::)
Though, working with that material is usually by weaving them and pyrography which I think would bore you hehe
I'd like to plant one though in my garden sometime. Pahingi pag my EB!
Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.
that would require you to have several machines for you to get them flat and made into boards, but you can always use it in its shape of course...
click my signature and it will take you there........

How about bicycles made out of bamboo and abaca?
Here's a thread in pinoyboats about it.

Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.
I used to work with bamboo back in the '80s. We'd punch a hole through all the nodes, except the bottom-most one. Then drill a finger-sized fuse hole near the bottom.
Throw in a couple of chunks of calcium carbide, a few drops of water through the fuse hole. Wait about a minute for the fumes to build up, then light up the fuse hole. BOOM! :p

How about some organic lampshades / light sculptures? Saw this at youtube.

Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.
HI there jon, maybe I can also contribute lots of things regarding your bamboo DIYs since I too have three bamboo clumps in my place where I get my supplies for bamboo furnitures.
I did not cut these clumps during my landscaping projects coz I know these bamboos will be very useful to me specially for the planned "bahay kubo" under the manggo trees. Though its madumi sa paligid because of the continues falling leaves, just fine with me, tyaga lang sa ka wawalis in the morning and in the afternoon. :p
Actually my dining set is made from my bamboo supply, made it 6 years ago. Maybe I'll post some pics of my dining set in days to come. 😉
Anyway I'll contribute some wips in the future pag natapos ko na ang para sa metal wips and concrete wips.

actually joey, hindi ko pa nakakalimutan hangang ngayon, i was grade six then,
we used kerosene for the bamboo canyon...
ihip muna bago mo sindihan, nung hinipan ko, hindi ko alam na may apoy na sa loob
bumalik palabas yung apoy, then there it goes...
pumasok ako sa school na walang kilay at pilik - mata
i keep on laughing whenever i remember those moment...:p
Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.
neo,
nice you tube videos, gives us some ideas on how artful bamboos are,
is that a die grinder ?, and a movable clamp to hold the bamboo, all is done easily.
ang galing, nice neo, thanks...
Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.
