Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.

Metal pipe sana mas matibay but will take away the Nostalgia effect. Bamboo pa rin with support rings na lang.

Kerosene or Kalburo? Cguro for Kerosene we will need one like this or similar.

"First bamboo car"? "First and only bamboo and rattan car in the world"? Looks like that Inquirer reporter and editors not doing their homework and/or trying to sensationalize at expense of accuracy. They didn't even bother to do a web search? Millions of hits on "bamboo car".

For Philippines, this bamboo taxi was featured before:

May not look sleek or drawn "raves in Milan" but unlike Cobonpue's, it was working and powered reportedly by coconut biodiesel. Anyone know of any other local examples?

BTW, where can we buy raw/unfinished sawali sheets, the smooth kind like used to make bilao and in second pic below?

Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.

HI there jon, maybe I can also contribute lots of things regarding your bamboo DIYs since I too have three bamboo clumps in my place where I get my supplies for bamboo furnitures.

@ jonathanscruz68,

Hey jon, I have two pics here that I would like to share, the bamboo benches are 2 of 6 that I DIY'ed as dining benches of my bamboo dining set done in the summer of 2003 or 2004. These pics are not current WIPs, I did not take pictures of it then since I think its not that important and of course there was no PHM DIY community during those years.

Here are the pics I'd like simply to share.

These 2 benches and the other four have under gone repairs already, if you can see in the pics the ropes wrapped around the four legs were used to be originally " uways " but then as years passed the bamboo started to dry up and started to shrink so the uway wrapped around the legs became loose so I changed it to abaca ropes. My mistake then was when I made these benches, they were freshly cut from the bamboo clumps, though the one I used were already "magulang" and drying up, realizing the mistake I should have cured the freshly cut bamboos for a year or two so to speak to make sure there will be no more shrinkage in the future.

Now my 6 benches are a little wobbly due to shrinkage and it has become light to carry unlike before ang bibigat pag binubuhat. 😮

Maybe I'll be posting more of the benches and its design. 😎

Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.

rosy,

those are very nice benches, you gave us bright ideas about bamboo projects.

nice tops, kahit hindi close-up looks pulido ang pagkakagawa.

i guess i have to look na for a magulang na bamboo and let dry for the time being.

awaiting for more designs, and hopefully WIPS of the bamboo projects in the near future.

thanks very much sir rosy !!!

Re: BAMBOO, for DIY projects.

Yes sir jon I'll be posting more pics in the days to come and sana mapalawak natin ang thread na ito.

Right jon uwi ka na muna sa farm ninyo sa Bulacan and start harvesting matured bamboos then let it dry for sometime, stock it first in a dry place, not directly under the sun in preparation for your bamboo project.

GO GO GO na habang tag init pa., hard to harvest bamboo when its raining, madulas ang kawayan at mahirap akyatin.
