Good day PHM Bro's
I have a 2 stroke grasscutter and a 2 stroke 16 inch chainsaw and have been using it for few years now. It's been running on regular gas mixed with 2T oil since I got them(got them used at a surplus shop). Recently, I'ved been having a hard time getting a regular gas since only few gas stations are selling them now, is it ok to change my fuel use from regular gas to unleaded gas? And also, can I use an engine oil instead of 2T oil for the mixture? TIA Bro's

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

Shifting to unleaded is ok with only minimal performance changes but I wuld suggest still using a 2T oil.

+ 100 . Why change something that works ( 2T oil ) when it is still available.

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

teka, baka masmaraming T naman yung engine oil... 😮 😀

Just kidding, you're not suppose to substitute engine oil to 2T since the formulation is totally different...

Baka nga sir:D.
Thanks masters, now I know it's safe to use unleaded gas. About the oil, may nagsabi kasi sa akin na engine oil helps not to harden the diaphragm, twice na kasi ako nagpalit ng diaphragm. Anyway I'll just use 2T to be safe.

Hi bro, I too have a chainsaw that I use for felling and cutting trees for firewood and specially during stormy months when strong typhoons would hit our country and would uproot trees or break big branches here in my farm.

I also have several 2 stroke grass cutters or shall we say line trimmers that I use personally to trim my lawn. Now if you are having problem with finding regular gasoline you can also use the premium gasoline for this small 2 stroke engines. I tis cheaper than the unleaded type of gasoline.

But of course you will still mix it with 2T motor oil. I just hope you follow the owners manual for mixing fuel and oil coz if not you will have problems with your engines. Never make the mistake of using straight petrol in your engines bro masusunog ang piston mo.

I am also strict with myself specially in the proper mixing of fuel and oil, knowing the right fuel & oil mix ratio is very important because I
have different brands of small engines.

Here's a guide of fuel & oil mixture ratio that I use and hope be usefull to you.
McCulloch and Husqvarna chainsaws ----40 : 1 ratio., meaning
you add 0.25 ml of 2T oil per liter of gasoline.
McCulloch grass cutter ----- same ratio as above, 40 1ratio.
Ryobi grass cutter/line trimmer ----50 : 1 ratio., meaning you add 0.20 ml of 2T oil per liter of gasoline.
Talon grass cutter/line trimmer ---- 25 : 1 ratio., meaning you add 0.35 ml of 2T oil per liter of gasoline.
Stihl chainsaws---- same as the above, 25 : 1 ratio

Reminder that you don't starve your guide bar and chain cutters of oil in its oil reservoir and simply using premium gasoline in replace of regular will just be enough.

Bro sana we could talk more and possibly lenghtely about using chainsaws as for personal use only. I've been searching the net locally for such forum but can't find one. Maybe we could start one
in the future. Thanks

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

thanks rosy, but for clarificatiion, is it really 0.25ml per liter ratio for a 40:1? 'Coz it seems too small amount of oil for a liter of gas. isn't it 25ml per liter?

a thread for chainsaw would be nice and helpful for amateurs like me.

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

HI BRO, I am so glad you replied and noticed my error in typing the equivalent fuel / oil mixture for
the chainsaw. Yes it is actually a 25 ml of 2T motor oil to a liter of premium gasoline. I am very sorry
for the mistake, I stand corrected and no intention to confuse you. If I may be allowed let me rectify
and post some corrections.

For the 40 : 1 RATIO ***** 25ml of 2T oil per liter of gasoline
For the 50 : 1 RATIO
** 20ml of 2T oil " " " "
For the 25 : 1 RATIO
***** 35ml of 2T oil " " " "

Its great to know now that there is someone out there that I can talk to and possibly exchahge views
or ideas concerning the use of these machines.

BRO, I'm not a pro when it comes to using this chainsaws its just so happen that I've been using this tool
for the last 15 years here in my place and kinda became so familiar with its engine, the do's and don'ts when operating it, its safety features, how to maintain the tool so on and so forth. I don't make a living
out of this tool, for me its just a tool that makes cutting fire wood easier and faster.

Have a tip for you, click on to chainsaw videos on you tube, its all there magsasawa ka sa infos on using chainsaws, different brands from homeowners up to the professional chainsaws.

Yeah a new thread about this machine would really be useful and helpful too.

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

Good day bro. Well, compared to me, you are a pro. I just got my surplus chainsaw a few months ago. It's an unintended acquisition, 'coz a friend of mine wanted to have one but after purchasing this chainsaw he change his mind and decided to sell it to me at a very low price (mcculloch 16inch 35cc - P2T) and I can't resist.

I'll try to do what you suggested, to browse the you tube. But of course it would be better if the answers would come from PHM.

Thanks bro, catch you next time.

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

Good day to you too Bro, Do you know who the pros are?, those guys or chainsaw operators using the big
chainsaws used for felling trees in our mountains. Yes their chainsaws are the big ones, really for the professional timber cutters. I have few friends that uses them and I've tried the very famous
STIHL MS 070/720 model chainsaw with 36" guide bar and chain just to see how it feel to run it, my God its so heavy to carry and log around,at 16 to 18kgs ang weight, the chainsaw was really back breaking at malakas ang vibration. Pero ang lakas ng makina, mabilis pang tistis ng cocolumber or hard wood.

Kaya lang talagang mabigat bro, baka malaglag matres mo, hahahaha

Bro pag nag internet ka click mo sa google, click mo following:
STILH chainsaw vidz
MC CULLOCH chainsaw vidz
HUSQVARNA chainsaw vidz

These are good brands of chainsaws and sa videos they'll show you different models and will explain
every features of each model, very informative and very educational. ALSO try to read their chainsaw forums and see how these chainsaw owners talk about their acquisitions of chainsaws.

How I wish there's such a forum here like in the states, sa kanila anybody can own chainsaws because
they use it for firewood to keep them warm specially on winter months, OKs lang sa goverment nila.
Dito saaten medyo nag hihigpit because of illegal logging, people with large chainsaws are having a hard time transporting their machines, they would often dismantel the guide bar and chain and put it in sacks
so to be discreet in transporting. I've heard Bro that in your place in LAGUNA a number of this professional
chainsaws have been confiscated by the locall authorities, yun bang ginagamit pang tistis ng cocolumber.

Some owners of this large chainsaws are selling their units at very very low price, I've seen some at sulit maybe just to get rid of their chainsaw kaysa naman ma confiscate pa at makasuhan pa.

That is why I'm thinking twice if I'm gonna put a thread sa PHM regarding the use of chainsaws kasi
we now have laws with regards to chainsaw ownership. If you have time click mo sa google
CHAINSAW, PHILIPPINES basahin mo yung article about chainsaw ownership.
I am thinking if I post a topic on this tool baka walang magparticipate, kasi parang nagiging illegal na ang pagmamayari ng chainsaw, any way am still weighing things regarding this matter.

Siguro Bro tayo na lang muna magpalitan ng mga informations regarding chainsaws, sayang ang sarap din
pag usapan tool na ito. THANKS BRO

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

That's right bro, I've already heard of lots of loggers being apprehended here in Laguna. I just don't think their saws were confiscated, 'coz most of them have their licenses.

I'll check out those articles you said next time. I guess if we're the only ones in this forum, you'll get tired of me asking you questions, 'coz you're the one who have more experience with chainsaws:D.

Re: Change from Regular gas to Unleaded gas

Hindi naman BRO, the reason why we joined PHM is to be able to help each other, share infomations that will be beneficial to all.

The reason why I'm having second thoughts is because of legal implications since we now have passed laws
concerning ownership of this tool. If you have any questions regarding your chainsaw feel free to ask and am willing to share my experience in using it, OK
