Re: Creating your own pocket garden

Sir rosy, pardon me pero after meeting you yesterday, I now can say you're indeed a gentle giant.
Back to topic ,Sa dati kong bahay may ferns ako na isinabit Lang sa metal grills ng window to prevent neighbors from peeping inside my space, eto yung tipong nakatusok Lang sa coconut husk. Well after taking very good care of it lumaki sya ng sobra, magulat mom ko Kung paano lumaki yung halaman eh NASA boa Lang lol. Btw yung window grills may aircon pa so mainit sa halaman, but I guess yon ang gusto nun plant na yon. Makahingi nga ulit ng Ganoon na plant.

Btw sir rosy ok din yung pocket garden kasi pwede ding smoking area, may nakatago ka ba na five fingers plant dyan sa garden mo?hehe

OH my, what gentle giant are you talking about, he he he he e mas mukhang mas malaki ka nga sa akin, lol.

Bro actually ferns are plants that loves hot or humid atmosphere, in tropical countries and in jungles in south America , these kind of plants trives so well and some varieties grows so tall like 6ft to 8 ft.

Yes ricky, I have plenty of five fingers in my garden at hindi ko sya tinatago, LOL, If you need some, I can cut several stems and have them produce roots sa mga seedling bags and maybe on the next EB may mga roots na at buhay na, dadalhin ko na lang.

I have space on our roof top ( concrete ) and the only thing there is the water tank. What would be a good way to start planting something there. Obviously I need something to contain the soil first ...

Another thought is I can't afford to get soil buildup in the down drainage one way or another ... this might cause problems in the long run.

Yes I agree horizontally lol. Sige bro pahingi ako noon ha. Tried it before but ants seems to love it so much that they always infest it. Another plant that I want is the siling labuyo, yung maliliit na super anghang, again I tried growing them but sadly birds naman ang umuupak. Mas gusto ko plants yung may bunga, like calamansi and sili. We also have basil plant which is so easy to grow.

Re: Creating your own pocket garden

@ JayL,

If only I have a concrete rooftop here in my place, I'll fill it up with different varieties of lettuce, the ones we buy at supermarkets that are so expensive and the process I'll do to grow them is by HYDROPONICS. I just love fresh veggie salads, plenty of sliced tomatos, lettuce, strips of carrots, mixed with pineapple tidbits then raisins, hmmmmmmm so yummmy. Jay if you have time try researching on HYDROPONICS, its very easy lang, sayang yung concrete rooftop mo, let it produce something edible. For me I don't know it yet but have researched on it already, just finding time only to attend seminars sa Quezon Circle, QC.

Very much interested on HYDROPONICS.

OK I will. That will be more attractive for me ... no soil to clog the down spouts.

sir J u can start by making improvised pots from plastic container junks then ipatong mo na lang sa mga batyang walang butas para kahit dinidiligan mo nasasalo ng batya yung mga soil pwedeng ibalik mo sa pot ....balak ko nga pag natapos na yung roof top ng bahay nmin papaikutan ko ng plant box para green house ang dating

Re: Creating your own pocket garden

@ violaine, spykersetter,

GUYS I started gardening when I was in grade three, our catholic school would let us sweep the surroundings of the school after our flag ceremonies every morning then would start gardening around the concrete fences of the school, we would cultivate our assigned plots then water them before 7:30 am for our first subject in class and then water them plants again in the afternoon after classes.

So at that very young age e nag lulupa na ako but still very very far from being a senior citizen and during those times we were thought and advised too by our teachers to talk and sing to the plants we were tending.
