rainy days! i am happy when it rains!
pinagalitan ko nga new maid namin the other day kasi binunot ba naman mga carabao grass ko! nakita naman niya dinidilig ko yung mga namamamatay ng grass..huhu..anyway with the rains eh for sure madaming dalang nitrogen yun at masaya na naman mga plants ko!

Right you are there doc V, I too love the rainy season, they just bring life to every plants since here in my place I'm surrounded with different varieties of fruit bearing and ornamental trees and more of ornamental potted plants. Few days after a hard rainfall if one is very observant, one can notice or see plants sprouting new shoots of leaves, greeneries become intense, even the lowly bermuda or carabao grass all over would start to grow anew carpeting the whole wide lawn, ahhh such God given beauty if one knows how to appreciate this simple joys. :p 😉

With the onset of the rainy season which is only just around the corner, its the time for gardening, planting new seedlings, repotting overgrown bromeliads, ferns or bird's nest, or the flowering potted bougainvilleas we dearly love because of its lush flowers during the summer months, the constant maintenance and endless trimming of our front or backyard lawns simply to beautify our gardens and surroundings. 😎

Its a good thing the rains started to come.. my plants were getting dried up with the severe heat. Im not too fond of lawns, my preference are plants that one can eat hehe :p

He-he. You can just imagine how I felt:

I have about 7 steps up to my front door from the pedestrian gate. These steps are of rectangular white stone...piedra...something, set on earth. Surrounding the steps are Peanut Grass we patiently planted and waited to grow and bloom into its full yellow flowered glory, cascading from one step to the next, with just the piedra, seemingly floating on it. On the left of these steps, the ground falls off into a wall where the peanut grass becomes a "waterfall" of green and yellow.

The peanut, after some time, need some minor trimming so SWMBO asked the maid to do it. Maid thought she meant the peanuts need to be mowed!

HE HE HE HE HE HE HE I'm laughing out loud here sir ding when I read your last line regarding your maid, buti hindi tinanong ng maid ninyo na bakit walang tubong mani ang mga peanut plants ninyo.

Garden lawns are a major and integral part of a garden, they are the area of land covered with grass or other low lying plants that really doesn't need so much care or attention.

But what makes our garden lawn healthy and beautiful ? What makes it so pleasing to the eyes and what attentions does it need ? :p

Well small or large lawns need to be watered regularly and the best time to water them will be early morning or late afternoon so to reduce water evaporation. But during the summer months, your plants and lawns should be watered more frequently. Also we should fertilize our lawns at least twice a month so it will promote root growth and help the lawn grasses recover from the summer heat.

During rainy season lawn grass would grow faster so you'll have to trim or mow the grasses to keep them in shape. For small pocket gardens with small lawn, large garden shears can be used but for large wide lawns, you can use the electric or petrol fed grass cutters or line trimmers or maybe push lawn mowers. In my experience grass cutters or line trimmers are faster.:flower::bee:

Oh by the way, when trimming lawn simply leave grass clippings to decompose, this will give additional nutrients to the soil. :thumbup:

Sir may i know the proper name dun sa fertilizer? Minsan kasi yun white na parang asin yun binigay sa akin tapos the other one is brown in color na sinlaki ng munggo yun binigay sa akin.

Hi there rony.

Well I buy my fertilizers at mall hardwares, sa gardening sections nila and they've got plenty.
Its RAMGO'S Complete Fertilizers, and packages comes in three different colors, GREEN pack for green leafy vegetables and foliage ornamental plants and lawns, PINK pack is for flowering and fruit bearing plants or small trees like possibly your atis, chicos, citrus, guaplles etc and tomatoes, eggplants, ampalayas, kalabasa, okras etc, the YELLOW pack hmmmm I forgot what its really for but I think one of its content is lesser in percentage, nitrogen,phosphorus and potassium, whichever.

Anyway I do sometimes buy my fertilizers at some agri store at our local market its much cheaper, the one they sell by weight and the reason why I buy too the Ramgo packed fertilizers is because of some sort of color coding for me he he he he. :p If I need to fertilize my pechays or ornamental plants, I just get the green pack, alam ko na agad and these are the white one as small as the rock salt and for my flowering plants or fruit bearing trees , I simply grab the pink pack and these are the brown ones.:D:springsmile: :bee:

Paano niyo Sir Rosy ina-apply ang color coded na green (Ramgo) fertilizer?

Kasi sa instruction para sa ornamental plants, e dapat daw mag-hukay ng konti sa palibot ng halaman. Mga ilang inches away sa plant. Tapos lagyan ng konting fertilizer (yung kulay parang asin).

Also, kapag ba ka-cu-cut lang grass (Carabao or bermuda) pwede narin lagyan ng fertilizer kagad?

Yes brad just follow the instructions printed on the package, whether its for ornamental plants, vegetable plants or fruit bearing trees, they all have the same procedure. What I do sometimes when I fertilize , I dig about 10" to 12" away from the main trunk (puno), and about only 6" deep, then put 1/2 heaping teaspoon of fertilized on the trench, then cover it with soil then water that area pare mabilis mag dissolve yung salt like fertilizers, this is only for established plants.

Plants with succulent or soft main trunks, pa kurot kurot lang ang lagay ng fertilizers every 15 days, to much fertilizers would burn the leaves and eventually your plants will die.

For your lawn with carabao or bermuda carpeting, you can spread the granulated fertilizers readily or you may dissolve then already in a big bucket of water then use a water sprinkler and spread it manually for fast absorption sa lupa.

Sir, how about yung pang-cut ng grass?

Maliit lang naman ang area ng tini-trim ko. Pero gusto kong mas-mapabilis ang pag-cut ng grass (Bermuda at Carabao grass). Gamit ko ay multipurpose shears lang.

For faster way of trimming your lawn, see if you can buy a gasoline fed grass trimmer or cutter.
Plenty of these are available locally, check out Sulit, lots of sellers there selling different brands like Ryobi, GMC, Homelite or McCULLOCH. Check out also our classified ads, I think a member is also selling some garden tools surplus from Australia. :cool01: Simply choose the line trimmers, perfect for bermuda and carabao grass and not the bladed ones coz this are more for cogons and talahibs.

Or you can buy a lawn mower, the push type, no more gasoline needed, good for exercise pa, LOL.

I too have several grass trimmers/grass cutters, one with blade and the rest are with the nylon strings and these grass trimmers makes my cutting grass faster in 2 or 3 days trimming almost 4000 + square meters of front lawn with carabao grass done every 15 days . 😮 😉
