hi! im neri and i just signed up awhile ago. i am about to start my container gardening project in a few weeks. one of the supplies i need is a roll of landscaping fabric. i will use it to stop soil from being washed away through the drain holes.

anyone has an idea where i can get some? does diy shops carry it?

i am planning for a vegetable garden in our terrace and rooftop 🙂

hmm, I wonder if old stockings would use? I went to paint product demo/seminar once and one of the speaker suggested old stockings if the price of paint strainers are too steep. I know this isn't about gardening, but just thought I might add something to support my old stockings suggestion. 😛

Safety first - always wear face/eye/ear/hand protection as a minimum.

Re: Landscaping fabric, anyone?

I read somewhere in ErosionControl.com that coconut mats were effective control, especially since they allowed the plants to lay roots and also allowing water to shed through. There is a part of the coconut tree that is already like fabric. Its the part that keeps the branches from rubbing against the trunk.

However, in my experience, if you live anywhere close to a river or creek (like we do), termites are very abundant. And to them, coconut products are like candy. I once used ground coconut husk as rooting medium and whenever I placed it, the termites would tunnel into it in less than a day.

Landscape fabric (geotex) is available locally, but used mostly by commercial fish and prawn farms. You might want to start your search from a state university extension office or some livelihood NGO.
